so what is it, do you lke them or do you think they suck? 10

Why do they have to be mutually exclusive?  I can like Nirvana and not think Cobain is America's great songwriter, can't I?

Buzz is saying he likes Nirvana, but Kurt is not the greatest American songwriter next to Dylan.

Hope that clears it up.

Exactly.

It's more like the cook wasn't the greatest cook in the world, but the food was still good.

My quote means if Cobain is our greatest songwriter other than Dylan, that isn't a great reflection on our songwriters.  Cobain made good, enjoyable music, but Dylan he wasn't.  Well, he was to a generation that I don't really understand...but it seems to me that a lot of that came after he died.

The truth is Cobain wrote pop music that tried to be like Dylan, but was more like a Fiona Apple song with grunge guitar.  There's nothing wrong with that, but he wasn't a great songwriter.

Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash and a bunch of others (to start)  are better than Cobain. Now, I would say Cobain is one of our greatest american "hard rock" songwriters.

Hell, what about Hendrix for fuck's sake? I dig Cobain...lyrics and guitar playing. Like Jimi, he was a one man gang. But, he wasn't Hendrix. 22

I agree. Canada would be rolling over in laughter should that be the case.
