Let's be real... if Sheen's speaking at an event like this or at any event what do you expect from him? Doing a speech full of Shakespeare quotes or acting like a comedian? The latter. The guy is a born comedian, even if he did well in other types of movies.
He is not a born comedian. He is an actor who, when given funny lines to recite, is funny. Thus, he's a pretty good actor, not a good comedian. His recent comedy tour was going horribly (not talking about sales, talking about quality), so he hired a seasoned comedian (Jeffrey Ross) to come in and help him make the show somewhat funny. If he was such a brilliant comedian he wouldn't have needed any help at all. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if the "speech" for Slash was written by outside writers, or at least in collaboration with. Let's not make Charlie Sheen out to be Richard Pryor here.

Yeah but who will be winning in 2070?
They'll both be dead but I'd guess AFD/UYI will have a more lasting cultural impact than any of Sheen's TV shows.
Like the great musical works of the past, new people will come along and be inspired by those compositions and recordings. Don't think too many lives in the future will be changed by the re-runs of Sheen's TV shows.
I still love The Andy Griffith Show and it was done what? almost 50 years ago and still one of the best shows on TV
so Two and A Half Men could still be funny in 50
agree though, the music will live on forever.

Charlie Sheen is funny. He's a natural born comedian, otherwise he couldn't have been so successful is parodies. Everybody knew he would be joking at an event like this. That was my point, before it gets hijacked. No surprise he was joking. What's the obvious joke in this case? Slash vs. Axl. That's it.
But some people (not you) got butthurt cause Axl 'got hurt'. Big deal. May delay CD II with another 5 years. I myself wasn't happy about it, cause it should have been about Slash, but he chose Charlie and Charlie is Charlie. He's a very good actor and a very funny guy, even if some people (not you) can't stand him anymore, cause he's The Devil's Advocate.

Yeah...I have no problem that he ripped on Axl...I just thought it was a lame joke...if they wanted to pick on something that made more sense...like his start times or something....that would be one thing....but it just seemed weird to say he was going to be homeless when he's loaded. I guess the point was he's not dominating in pop culture anymore and that slash is doing better at it. Which i guess does make some sense. Just seemed a weak joke. I thought it was funnier on things like the VR doco and scott isn't there and Slash looks at the camera and says "Singers...."...true but subtle...

2070? Do you listen to anything from 1920? That's what people will think of AFD at that point.
100% completely WRONG. Music landscape changed drastically between 1920 and 1987. Trust me AFD will still be a classic in 2070. The radio station here today just paid tribute to AFD celebrating it's 25th anniversary. They played songs off it all day long including the deep cuts. Then tonight they played the entire album in it's entirety without interuption other than qucik bit of info before each song. The album is an all time classic and Jungle has been recognized as the best hard rock song of all time.
Trust me AFD will be revered in 2070 like it is now. No different than Elvis, Beatles, Zeppelin etc etc etc. Music culture and the way people viewed bands and albums changed in the 50's to insure that the classics will survive the test of time. To suggest AFD will be all but forgotten the way the "classic albums" of the 1920's have been is just not even remotley close to accurate. I mean seriously you think in 58 years arguably the greatest rock album of all time will be forgotten? Not a chance.

This is nothing but truth. Despite what Gn'R fans online like to think AFD is on a completely diferent level in terms of staying power and popularity. It's not even remotely close.

On an unrelated note this whoe debate that has popped up from time to time about who's more popular and recognizable these days Axl or Slash. I just asked a group of 42 kids today between the ages of 9-11 if any of them knew who Axl Rose was. Not a single kid knew who he was. When I asked who Slash was they all knew exactly who he was. All of them knew he played guitar and almost all of them knew he was the guitar player for Guns N' Roses. They knew this without me leading them to it. I simply asked who he is. I just found it real interesting.

So they play 3 songs from the two albums, and two of them are covers...
