"Axl's voice sucks today"
Yet if it was laid over Anastasia, everybody worldwide would cream all over it.
I hear what you're saying and I don't like Robert Plant's voice either. BUT the world in general seems to love it.
My concern with Axl's voice today is as bad as it is sometimes live, his studio voice is way to processed for my tastes. I must be the only one on this board who feels that way but when I listen to CD his voice sounds so artificial and fake compared to the the old albums.
Hearing Anastasia with Ax's voice would be cool though.

Axl could sing 87-93. I stated that now most people feel Axl can't sing anymore, MTV awards 2002 anybody? I know he can sing, and Axl on Anastasia would own. Jim Morrison is the easier covered voice ever. Scott Stap, Weiland, atsbury all do a good Morrison. Plant was a total fucking badass in a hard rock band. Morrison was too, but was only good in one range. Axl, Bon Scott, Jagger, Plant, Tyler, Morrison, all great front man. Myles isn't. He is just a good singer. Don't confuse front man and singer.

Vocal preference is one of those very unique things about people's tastes.
For example:
* I love Axl's voice but I know 2 or 3 people who specifically never gave GNR a chance because they hated it.
* I have friends who love pearl jam but I personally can't stomach eddie vedder's voice even though I recgonise much of the songwriting is good.
* I really like chris cornells voice usually - but small doses for me - I saw his 2 hour songbook show and while it was a killer performance it was almost too much.
* I enjoy scotts voice (although I see him as musically limited as he doesnt have much range) but I know people who hate it, but then I know people who fucking love him too.
* Most people hate dave mustaines voice, except hardcore megadeth fans sort of adapt to it and grow to love the texture it adds to his stuff.
* Bono of U2 has an amazing technically clean and pure voice I think...no question he sings very beautifully at times...but for my tastes I want a bit more grit in there ala axl so I'm only a very casual u2 fan.
* Myles is a bit the same - some people fucking love what he does, others hate it....so the more I think about it - the more I think it really just comes down to personal taste.
On GNR tracks to me Myles is just a facilitator. He can hit the notes - without the texture Axl adds - but he can hit the notes - which makes it possible for slash to play songs like Civil War that most of his other singers just were not able to sing. But he's not like Axl was. He's just a facilitator to hear slash.
On his own tracks though I think he's much much better (maybe first 2 songs of the album aside) - but in general i think he often sounds good on the album.
It reminds me of Fink. I HATE the way he plays Slash's solos. Can't stomach it. The only purpose of it to me was to facilitate seeing Axl do those songs again. But I think he was pretty good on Chinese Democracy on songs that were designed with him in mind.

I agree. As I wrote in the other thread, after having streamed the songs to make up my mind, I finally bought the album, and I don't regret a single eurocent. I'm still not a fan of Myles's vocals, I find them grating sometimes, but I can live with that. Overall, this is a very nice and extremely consistent, no-bullshit, hard rock album. The strong points are obviously Slash's playing: super-tasty, supercharged '70s dino-style, with gorgeous guitar tones. I enjoy the production too, no-frills, clear, raw. Great job, might be one of the coolest guitar albums of the year.

Myles is a good singer when he gets out of his own way and sings in his natural voice. Starlight is a great example. But a lot of the time he gets in his own way with that annoying nasally thing he does. It just doesn't sound right.

I agree, he is better than that. I like far and away and not for me. On Anastasia he has some nice moments.

Most prefer this album over Van Halen's because it has better songs. Roth can't sing at all anymore. And has stupid lyrics.
It's still early, but so far I don't think the album is anywhere near the same league as "A Different Kind Of Truth". It's all subjective though. And to be fair, I LOVE ADKOT. Didn't "love" it right away though.

Do you mean average music fans? Yes. But you'll only find people on GN'R forums writing off Slash's whoel new album because of Myles. The rest of the rock world isn't this harsh with him.

People hate Axl. That's true. He sucks. Alot of people didn't like his voice. 50 million people bought his records, because Slash was on them.
