A guitar forum is not an objective place to get that opinion.

Why?

It's a fucking guitar forum. Guitar fans are gonna hear riffs and instrumentation first, probably because they are musicians themselves.

Vocals are secondary

To most music fans, like myself, it's the reverse of that. Vocals, melody, chorus is what sticks in your head and goes with you on a song.

Do you mean average music fans? Yes. But you'll only find people on GN'R forums writing off Slash's whoel new album because of Myles. The rest of the rock world isn't this harsh with him.

That's because they listen to it once, and throw it to the back of their closet or delete it from their iPod, never to be listened to again.

We actually LIKE Slash. Or even LOVE Slash.

We'll be "booing" him for years over this, because we actually care and will listen to even his shit over and over.

Because we're actual fans. For all the people that beat off about Myles being universally loved, amazing the Slash show I was at I heard a dozen people in my area alone basically say "he's not Axl". And they weren't even GN'R fans.

Well I would say I love Slash as much as anybody here, and I'm not going to apologize because I can't stand listening to his singer.  I've been on record a ton of times saying Slash is playing better now than ever.  I can even put up with Myles on the songs I love to hear Slash play them again.  What I can't do, or maybe what I won't do is put up with him on a record full of songs I don't know.

When Slash comes back to the US in the fall (or whenever it is), I will go and it will be great in spite of Myles.  Most of the songs will be songs I know and like and the few others will be fine for a one off live.

I don't write off Slash's album but to be honest I'm not gonna sit through an album where the singer's voice annoyes me.  It's like old Limp Bizkit albums. I can't listen to them anymore cause even though I dig the music Fred Durst's voice bugs the shit out of me. Myles isn't that bad but his voice does ruin the listening experience for me to the point I can't be botherd to listen to more than one song and his voice takes away any desire to listen repeatedly.

Just like if a band had an amazing singer and the music was garbage. I wouldn't be listeing to that either.

hmm

People hate Axl. That's true. He sucks. Alot of people didn't like his voice. 50 million people bought his records, because Slash was on them.

Who are you fuckin' kidding?

I do have a buddy who can't stand listening to Guns N' Roses because he's always hated Axl's voice. Always. I remember him when we were in grade 9 saying he hated that guys voice. He thinks muiscally Gn'R were fucking great but vocally he could not stand Axl's voice. To him it was like nails on a chalkboard.  So he didn't listen to Guns N' Roses.

Still at the same time it doesn't mean my opinion is popular. I knew people too that didn't dig Axl's voice at all, but liked Sweet Child.

Regardless it doesn't matter what they think. The large majority of the world and rock community saw GN'R and Axl Rose included as one of the great frontmen of all time.

I still think Jim Morrison > Robert Plant, and Plant's voice can be annoying, yet look at how Plant's viewed by the world?

Axl is still Axl, and is seen as the man by the majority, even if they hate his guts.

"Axl's voice sucks today"

Yet if it was laid over Anastasia, everybody worldwide would cream all over it.

This is what I don't get.

Based on subsequent posts, you flip and flop around the issue of Myles' singing. You admit you don't like it either, then you wonder why people averse it so much they quit on the album.

Some people just focus on the vocals, and the lyrics, more than you do. To them, the frontman's the first in defining what they think about the song. None any different than you (I assume) feeling out the guitars on your first listen.

They hear Myles. You hear Slash.

They dislike Myles' nasal singing, in their words anyway, instead of him not being Axl. You're just pulling the Red into this discussion for no particular reason, as no-one is exactly comparing Myles to him.

Myles & Slash made an album, swell. Myles needs to face the music.
