Re: Slash and Myles Kennedy Respond To Vocal Criticisms
One thing is not liking Myles, other is saying the whole post-GN'R Slash catalogue sucks (because of the singers or Slash's playing). I agree that Myles' nasal singin' is BAD. Maybe it does hurt the enjoyement for some. But last time i checked you were the music guy, who only cares about the instruments
But comparing Myles, who is one of today's best rock singers (even if it shows the state of current rock music) to that out-of-tone player is a bit too much. He's more of the Bumblefoot of Slash's singers. A skilled, talented guy, who's not everyone's favorite, but his professionality cannot be questioned.
I'd agree with your comparision if you mentioned Scott. Since Scott Weiland, who, just like Robin Finck, has a 'unique style' and cannot deliver live without causing serious hearing problems to the audience and also a bit (or more) off on the records. But Myles is always spot on. Always.
Re: Slash and Myles Kennedy Respond To Vocal Criticisms

Spot on when you can't stand to listen to it doesn't matter. We're talking it's so bad that I literally cannot listen to some of the songs he sings no matter how good the guitar is. That's bad. My point in comparing them is they both make the music unlistenable (though in different ways). Maybe that's fine for Alter Bridge or whatever, but it just doesn't cut it for a guitar god in my opinion.
If he is the best (or even one of the best) of today's rock singers, it sums up to me why rock is dead and has been for some time.

i don't know what your point is meant to be here, but whatever the intention it appears a like smarmy & dumb.
you seem not to consider vocals as an instrument?! which is frankly astonishing.
when you consider putting vocals on something takes up like 50% of the sound, it's actually a p fuckin important tool for the music & if people can't get behind that then there's little hope for them or the music to get thru.
i think slash fucking kills on this album, & performance-wise has been kicking every other GnR members ass for the past 5yrs.
BUT there is an issue betweem him & top tier singers/other creative forces. the facts are undeniable. & until Slash is able to work w/that quality again he won't make an album as great as what he did in GnR.
(& don't make this to be me pro-axl, cause the same thing applies to him - he hasn't replaced Slash & Slash hasn't replaced him. what we're getting these days is simply flashes of what could be but ultimately is a failure in comparison.)
Re: Slash and Myles Kennedy Respond To Vocal Criticisms
Personally, I thought Eric Dover did a pretty good job on Snakepit 1. I can listen to those songs and have a kick out of it. I don't like some of the lyrics though, but perhaps those are Slash's.
The melodies are pretty decent.
Other Slash's Snakepit and Blues Ball vocalists sucked major ass.
Slash solo 1 was pretty good except for the Myles songs.
This new Slash album was, to me, a trip cause I had to separate the music from the vocals. I recognize Myles sings technically correct but his register just doesn't fit me.
Re: Slash and Myles Kennedy Respond To Vocal Criticisms
I don't buy it. Eric Dover sucked, Rod Jackson sucked, Scott Weiland sucked, all the Slash I contributors sucked and now Myles sucks... I see a pattern here. Some people just can't enjoy Slash's work outside of GN'R, since it's not Axl's singin'. I agree that the Axl/Slash combo is one of the best pairings ever, but stating that Slash's work is unlistenable because of the poor vocal performances just doesn't hold water.
I'm still waiting for my Classic Rock Fan Pack, but Myles was mediocre to great in the songs I've listened so far. Doesn't ruin the album at all.
For your information... I cannot stand to listen to Alter Bridge songs because of Myles voice. Tremonti's guitar work is amazing, and Myles ruins the songs.
Scott Stapp is a far superior vocalist, and he's "cookie cutter post-grunge".
Like Buzz said, when Myles sings in his lower register, and also actually SINGS the song, he's a remarkable talent. His performance of Sweet Child these days is better than Axl. His performance of Fall To Pieces is better than Scott's.
But when Myles relies on his nose, and sings through his nose, like he did on most if not all of ApLove, unlike his two tracks on Slash 2010, he's Robin Finck solo, horrible, territory.
And as for "sensing a pattern", that's utter bullshit and you know it. I've, and alot of people, have never had any problem in the world with Slash performing with Ian Astbury (who's voice blends BEAUTIFULLY with Slash's guitar), Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, Corey Taylor, M Shadows, Alice Cooper, Lemmy, Lenny Kravitz, Cypress Hill, etc.
Sensing a pattern? Slash choses the WRONG vocalists to do ALBUMS with and that's HIS fault, or he's got a WEIRD taste in vocalists, either way... the guy can be the greatest guitarist on the planet, but his tastes in vocalists is real suck ass.

Re: Slash and Myles Kennedy Respond To Vocal Criticisms
What I don't understand is why does Myles choose to go into that nasally mode you guys are referring to? Let's take a song like Starlight. There's a little bit of nasally stuff during the chorus, but the rest of the song is sung in a very natural voice. It sounds fucking GREAT. Why the hell doesn't he sing like that all the time?
