I should write a more full review when I'm not in afterglow...i've got that fan boy excitement you have when something is new.

My gut reactions:

* Reminds me of Snakepit 1 in the sense that it's a straight up rock and roll record where Slash isn't trying to hide his influences or his style and seems unashamed to let it rip. But it's more approachable than that record which seems to primarily be for guitarists wink It's awesome to me cos it sounds modern recording wise but song wise is old school rock - unlike a lot of VR that was cool but trying to be post-grunge a little too much for my taste.

* Slash's playing is so much better now than ever before technique wise. Being clean and sober has served him well.

*Way more cohesive than previous works. These songs fit together. I usually listen to stuff on playlists or shuffle these days. But you can put this record on and journey through the songs old school style. By cohesive I mean like on GNR you can tell what came from Axl and what came from Slash and what is Izzy. On libertad you can hear the songs and kind of guess if it was sacott, slash or duff who pushed for the song...but these all sort of match...but not in a samey boring way...they just seem like they're on the same album for a reason. Reminds me of listening to AFD in that way.

So my short review can be summed up as:

* I fucking love it. I think I love it pretty much as much as anything Slash has ever done. The whole thing is good, and the songs that are the best songs I think are headed up towards the top of my song lists forever.

I won't really go into song by song analysis until I've let it had longer to sit with me. All i'll say this early is:

*Anastasia has to be slash's best solo in decades if not ever....and

* There's a lot of other great solos on the record...

* there's a couple of really hooky catchy songs as well

* there's many of those moments where if you're a rock geek and you have it cranked in the car and you find yourself yelling out "hell yeah". Little things. A Drum fill, the way a note bends...the way a chorus kicks in.

* Carolina...really into it at the moment....it's not really a huge riff or solo based song...just like slash playing on the talk box...with a huge chorus progression....but for some reason...can't stop listening to carolina. It's so sort of slutty...like that stripper beat and the funky way slash is doing that talkbox thing is just downright dirty...then it hits that chorus....and the way those loud guitars come in with that sort of syncopated rhythm distorted to hell while a good 20 layers of myles' voice kick in...and it's just fucking soooo good. Really odd for me cos it's not the sort of song i normally rock out too.

Let the abuse rain...but I think this may be slash's best work ever....it's sort of like the pureblood rockness of snakepit and AFD but with the epicness of UYI...and the catchyness of the 2010 album all in one.....it's almost an AFD for the post AFD era....

Ok...yeah...like i said...I'm in fanboy mode...but does seem to be a great album!

I'm in the UK, got my copy yesterday. Haven't listened all the way through yet since I've been really disappointed so far. I love the Slash album and the Made In Stoke live one, but this one just feel so lacking in energy to me.

It's weird, I mean theres nothing really wrong with it, it has good riffs, Myles sounds great, and the rest of the band are spot on. The finished product doesn't have the power or classic rock feel of the last one.

It might grow on me, I'm sure I'll keep listening. I didn't really like You're A Lie when I first heard it but it's grown on me a lot.

All in all, not what I was expecting at all.

Probably going to get the album for my birthday or wait to purchase it. I do want to own it sometime soon because I agree Slash's live and studio playing as increased so much over the past few years.

I imagine the CD will be under $10 its debut week?  I haven't bought a CD for more than that amount in some time.  Sort of my rule to live by these days.  If so, I'll be sure to pick it up.

It's definitely a grower I think...some of the streams and samples I was a little unsure...but once you learn the choruses..there's so many great solos and little moments....pretty fun album I think.

Why do you have to wait for the CD to get down to $10 before you buy it?

Slash, Myles and the band have put a great effort into this album, and I think it's worth every cent I paid ($22 for the deluxe CD/DVD package)

Pretty disappointing that on a GNR fan forum, people can't even bring themselves to support a new Slash album.

Enjoyed it more on my second listen. Still don't think it's as good as the last album, but it's def worth the money. I haven't read the magazine yet either. The poster and badge are cool though.

I didn't buy CD untill it was $1.99.  I don't see a problem with waiting.
