I just don't think the songs are all that good, except for Standing in the Sun and One Last Thrill. I loved the 2 Myles tracks off of "Slash". So far, aside from those two songs I mentioned, the others pale in comparison. At least that's how I feel now. To be fair, I've only listened to the songs once. I'm not sure I loved "Back From Cali" right out of the gate either.
The problem is, Slash has fanboys no different than Axl. If Slash is playing "oh my God, fuckin' yes, best since GN'R" on any fuckin' thing he does.
The reality is, i'm just comparing the songs i'm hearing right now to Slash 2010. These songs if anything are making Slash 2010 just age better in hind sight. Slash's newest output have no Ghost's, Back From Cali, Nothing To Say, hell even the lesser tracks like Starlight, Promise and Crucify The Dead sound like amazing GN'R return tracks in hind sight.
Maybe i'm being a little tough, but I think so far what i'm hearing kinda gives credit to Axl's method, compared to Slash & Izzy's. Sometimes rushing into production too quickly will result in sub-standard music.

I think some of these are growers though...a couple of listens in the car and i'm digging the hell out of this now...where as first listen I always find myles hard to understand.
That's why I'm not rushing to judgement just yet. Upon first listen, I REALLY like 2 of the 6 songs. The others didn't do much for me. But that was after only one listen. That's not to say they won't grow on me. Although, "You're A Lie" has been out awhile and it still doesn't hit me. There's probably enough there for me to purchase the album and give it a shot, but I can't say I'm overly optimistic that it'll be in heavy rotation in my life.

I'm probably one of those 
I think this album is going to be like Snakepit 1, in that the guitar oriented amongst us will see it as a return to GNR style riffage, but the vocals will polarise opinion and put many people off.
I know, I know. It's not GNR riffage right. I disagree. Slash has ALWAYS played like this...perfect crime is a song like this.....there's dozens of them....the only thing that changes is the quality of the lyrics....
Have a listen to ISE divorced from all it's history and context...what's really going on there guitar wise? Compared to Slash's solos on the 2010 album and this record...technique wise it sounds like a guy who was still learning to play guitar.
And it's one of my favourite songs. I'm just saying...the reason people keep saying slash is getting better is cos he is...one of my favourite solos the YCBM solo is positively slowmotion compared to how that solo would be now if it was on Slash 2010. Back in GNR days Slash has said Nightrain was the absolute pinnacle of his technical ability...he wouldn't have been able to play a "nothing to say" or what we've heard so far of Anastasia back then.
Flat out couldn't do it. Then again...GNR is the better band...cos of Axl's lyrics...and he general attitude...and well...because we've mythologised it all from how awesome those songs are artistically.....but as Buzz said...these guys do what they do...and Slash keeps pumping out these rock riffs...some are better than others sure...but if you don't like these riffs I'm not sure what he could really do....
Also keep in mind...the problem with this song is it's "old guy" rock, meanwhile the problem with you're a lie is it's "too modern".

Yeah I don't think much or the first 3 song Couldnt care if I never heard them again but fucken love the last 3 better then i like back to Cali or starlight I can't see how you fellas don't like them I was really surprised to read that but Everone to their own

Problem is, short of a couple tracks and the still fully unheard Anastasia, I haven't heard any big guitar tracks.
Five O'Clock sounds like a masterpiece guitar-wise compared to this. So does Slash 2010. He seemed to really challenge himself with that one, and it showed. Even diehard Axl fans in 2010 were going "man if these two were together right now, they'd be the biggest rock act out there".
These current fresh songs off of Love just kinda play it standard, so far, which is not exactly what I was expecting from him. Maybe guitarists hear something extra special because they hear something different, but i'm just hearing alot of standard licks. Kinda reminds me of Snakepit II & Libertad. Slash has never ever been particularly good at follow-ups.

I think Libertad is far superior to Contraband guitar wise and it's not even close. It's hidden in the max (thanks Scott), but it's way more diverse than Contraband is guitar wise. Take Slither, FTP, and Loving the Alien away and Contraband is a bunch of similar sounding songs. Nothing wrong with that and I like Contraband, but I think you're missing something guitar wise.
