Re: Edwards quits race
Former Sen. John Edwards is quitting the Democratic race for president, two sources inside his campaign told CNN Wednesday. The former senator is expected to make an announcement in New Orleans at 1 p.m. details soon...

This is huge. He is quitting before Super Tuesday, and while he never won a state, he was getting enough votes to where it will make an impact. He was averaging about 15% of the vote, and now those people have to decide between Hillary or Obama.
Next Tuesday is gonna be interesting.
Re: Edwards quits race
Yeah, I really thought he'd hold on until after Tuesday, just to not distort the current #'s. Now anything can really happen, although I'm not sure whether it's Obama or Clinton who benefits & gets most of his votes. It might be close to 50/50 anyway, also vary by state.
Re: Edwards quits race
I have no idea who this is gonna benefit either. I don't think anyone has a clue. He has been running for so long that no one knows who his base will jump ship to.
I was likely gonna vote for him. Now I am stuck between Hillary and Obama. I'll have to vote for Hillary, but I just cant imagine myself actually checking the box next to her name. I always hated that bitch.

That's right, your in California.. Who's in the lead there? I think Obama really needs CA. Hillary will likely get NY & NJ, so Obama needs a big state to hold on. Then get otehrs like GA, TENN, & ALA.
Re: Edwards quits race
Oh man.....
Just checked the political sites and Obama is now only down 3% in the polls here in California. I am not a fan of polls as they are irrelevant in crunch time, but it appears that Hillary's lead might be slipping.
That is within the margin of error, and this poll was taken right before Edwards dropped out of the race.
Re: Edwards quits race
Hillary is in the lead here, but those poll numbers don't mean much. The only poll numbers that really mean anything are exit polls after voting starts.
Its going to be close.
Yeah, I think you're seeing the affect of Edwards leaving. It's helping Obama, not Hilary. Hilary was the most-polarizing of the 3 Democratic candidates, and people voting for Edwards likely will vote for Obama. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an understanding between Edwards and Obama that Edwards would drop out before Super Tuesday if he was no longer a factor, which he never was.
James, you keep saying you can't support Obama. It sounds like you've made up your mind already. Are you watching the debates and do you know the differences between the two or are you basing your decision on something else? Because if you're not looking into their policies, then you must be basing it on something that doesn't really affect anything. Personality? Experience? Clinton has been a lawmaker a shorter amount of time than Obama. Fact. He has more experience.
Re: Edwards quits race
He rubs me the wrong way. Hillary does as well, but at least thats an evil I know. Obama really has the unknown factor going, and we live in scary times. The economy is in the toilet, and the dollar could literally collapse at almost any moment. At least with Hillary you know that Bill's brain will be in the white house, although his latest involvement in the campaign is a turnoff.
If Obama gets the nomination and faces McCain, I will be voting for Obama. No way in hell am I voting for a man who wants never ending war when war played a role in the shit we are in now. He's a one trick pony. War war war. He wants every foreigner in the world to be able to come here. His idea of an economic plan is cutting "pork barrel spending". Cutting tens of billions in pork barrel spending while increasing other spending isn't gonna do shit.
This country will have a depression under a McCain presidency. Might have one anyways, but the war monger increases the risk.
McCain needs to be put out to pasture as quickly as possible.
Re: Edwards quits race
I'll post it here, rather than start a thread over this, but I thought last nights debates were win-win for both candidates. Hillary, stayed calm, and did not play dirty & attack Obama (Did she lock Bill in a closet the past week) which is really what she needed to do. Stay the front runner. On the other hand, Obama didn't 'lose' which showed he can hang with her, is just as competant, and makes a good candidate who's just as good as any of them. I give them both credit for not playing dirty, and I think this is what America does want, positive races, no more smear campaigns. That's why I still think the Dems will win. McCain is a bit of a slickster, twisting words, calling people flipfloppers etc etc. That's soo 2004. Look what happened in 06?! It no longer worked. He chuckles to himself like he's so great (like Rosco P Coltraine from the Dukes of Hazzard) Almost like he's saying "Good one John" to himself. I don't think that'll work for 8 more months. Also the war, he's really going to have to change his stance on the whole "be there for 100 years" quote. He'll get killed in the debates for that one. He played dirty with Romney twisting his words around, but Hillary and Obama can defend themselves better. And last night proved that even if Hillary wins the election, Obama will still be there at the Democratic National Convention, and will give one fucking hell of an endorsement speech that's going to own the general election. After the DNC, regardless of who's the candidate, the Dems will win.
