FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

Rudy Giuliani is slipping in the state considered 'crucial' to his presidential chances.

An average of three polls taken in Florida show Giuliani in third place. John McCain and Mitt Romney are neck-and-neck at 27% and 25%. Giuliani is way back at 16%'¦ practically tied with Mike Huckabee, who gets 15%. It's looking more and more like Giuliani's dream of being president is headed for the scrap heap. Two months ago Giuliani was the prohibitive favorite in Florida at 38% to 17% for Mitt Romney and 11% for John McCain.

One pollster is quoted by the Miami Herald saying Giuliani has 'virtually no chance to win in Florida.' Another says, 'If he can't make it there in Florida, he can't make it anywhere.' Guess the words of that famous song don't always ring true. And Florida is winner take all'¦if you don't finish first you don't get a single delegate.

Giuliani's campaign, of course, disputes all this, insisting he'll win. He argues his message just needs a little more time to sink in.

It's really quite stunning. Giuliani was the national front-runner for months. In a decision that strategists will probably talk about for years to come, he chose to virtually ignore the early states. Huge mistake. He goes into Florida 0 for 6 in states that have already voted. And, apparently the people in Florida don't like a loser, either.

If Giuliani loses in Florida on Tuesday, it could be the beginning of a collapse that will go down in history'¦ since he won't have the momentum going into Super Tuesday. You know, kind of like he hasn't had any momentum coming out of Iowa, New Hampshire, Wyoming, Nevada, Michigan or South Carolina.

His strategy to abandon all states and pray for a win in Florida is probably the most idiotic strategic move in political history. I think even republicans and people who like Giuliani are willing to admit that.

I think he would have lost anyways. His obsession with 9/11 has always been a big turnoff to people. A long time ago I think he did have a shot at the presidency. While being a mayor is no great stepping stone to the presidency, he did a few good things in NY and had an aura of leadership. He flushed all that down the toilet by saying 9/11 every five seconds and jumping in bed with the neocons.

Nobody wants "Dubya" II, and thats what Giuliani was starting to look like.

I think his political career has been permanently tarnished.

Giuliani ? Does he not get lambasted in the media other there, I know if he ran those kinda Ads over here, he'd be put on trial likely for inciting racial hatred.

Seriously.

He doesn't get "lambasted" because he is irrelevant now to this campaign. No one talks about him except for the occasional editorial piece. Even Paul gets more mentions than Giuliani, and that aint much.

He really squandered his opportunity.

He should have sat out the 08 campaign. Everyone knows a democrat is gonna win it mainly because the country is gonna vote against the Bush years. Republicans will not benefit from the anti Bush vote no matter how they try to spin it.

Giuliani is done. He never even actually started, which is weird. He basically stays in Florida and is ignored for the first couple months of hard-core coverage  in other states. Then they come to Florida and he still has to compete with everyone else. He fucked up, and based on that, I'd never consider him smart enough to run the White House. Bye, Rudy.

Yeah Guliani's campaign never really took off. I too thought he had a good shot several months ago, I thought him & Clinton would be the likely winners, but James is right, his mentioning 9/11 every 5 seconds proved he had little to run on. One drawback was he has alot of ideas which go against the GOP grain (pro-choice, pro-gun control) so he doesn't want to mention much else. Still I thought he'd have had a chance in NH, being so close to NY, but he squandered that opportunity & stayed in FL. And lost to Ron Paul in each election.

Anyway, yes it's over for Rudy. McCain is really taking off. I don't think Romney will hold on, on Super Tuesday I think McCain will likely win most states.

Re: Is Giuliani burnt toast??

I think Guliani is a fucking idiot.   He might be worse than Romney and Huckabee.

Rudy getting in bed with the neocons, as you mentioned, is what permanently turned me off to the man already accused of being little more than a political opportunist. He sold himself out and ran his own campaign into the dirt. See ya, Rudy.
