Re: Anyone interested or liking theatre here ?

Hi there,

Who likes theatre ( written theater in american), classical plays or contempory plays ?

Have you seen any ? Or done any ?

It seems like people never talk of it, it's always music or movies.

Re: Anyone interested or liking theatre here ?

Talking of musicals, i was bad with " cats" because i saw it three times in london, one of which was hysterical because a friend called Sasha was in it and i was sitting in the circle front row ? it moved around the stage, especially designed for the musical ? anyway, sasha and i come face to face as she is singing and dancing, bending over in her cat like pose and she freaks, she lost concentration and i thought she was going to loose it...it was both embarassing and funny...lol..thank god she regained concentration fast..lol...

The one play i HA TED was almost 4 hours long, it was a classical play at the " comédie française" in paris and honest, i could not hear well.
Now, this place is THE place for classically trained actors, a bit like the old Vic in Bristol uk.
I was so surprised to see that actors were in fact....bad ?

One play that shocked me and that i wanted to act is a play by an author called Sarah Daniels called Masterpieces.
If you can catch this one, see it.

yeah the stratford plays here are really good...the ones i've seen, the stratford festival in canada is prolly like a 6 month thing and all the best actors in canada try to get in there...we even get some other actors once in a while....for instance Alec Guinness was in the festival a couple times...anyway they main theatre (Festival Theatre) is modeled after SHakespeares own Festival theatre half round type of thing and i'm actually a bit put off in watching playisn in other theatres there just cuz i love that one so much...not a bad seat in the house...but Stratford Ontario has at keast 5 different ones and they are all used when the festival is on...I'm actually a member of that thing....like they send me discounts every year to go watch plays.

I'm not an actor myself but i know someone who went to school for it and has been in a few plays herself.

I'd also wouldnt mind seeing Opera at some point in my life.

Yes, i wouldn't mind either, i have never seen an opera.

I would actually love to see a good cast of Anthony and Cleopatra by shakespeare.

It's only normal you get good house names at shakespeare festivals, and even more so to get RSC actors too. It's a very good opportunity to see true talent, because nothing is harder than shakespeare ( or Marlowe too as it were), first of all because of the language barrier.

It is as hard to do as it is to understand for people sitting in the audience.

Good actors don't need to have the texts modernised because they can act so the public understands and usually, they get 85% of the play, language speaking.

And what's funny with WS is that he wrote about his contempories, so it's like listening to radio 1 gossip and i find it entertaining.

I love both although i have a pref for Macbeth.

But you'll love Hamlet.

Who's playing him ?

ben carlson is Hamlet this year

they are also playing Ceasar and Cleopatra

Christopher Plummer -Caesar
Anika Noni Rose - Cleopatra

not really household names...though Chris Plummer is pretty well known...the cool thing about this festival (well for canadian talent) is that it is a festival for canadian talent to showcase

they also have romeo and Juliet this year...and its all classic shakespear dialogue...sometimes they will modernize the outfits...but the dialogue is as Shakepear wrote it

The ones I have seen and like are Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Les Misrables (I've seen that three times).

When I was little my mum used to play a lot of the music from those 3 on the stereo at home so I got to know the music and songs quite well (I can actually sing along to a lot of the lyrics - lol).

I can definitely appreciate the music and the voices of the singers.

I remember I first saw Cats when I was about 16 - that was fantastic all these fit girls in cat suits and I was 16 and a bag of hormones.  16
