METALLICA: Footage From 'Call Of Duty' Launch Party Airs On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' (Video) - Nov. 17, 2010
METALLICA was featured in a "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" segment that was filmed at the launch event for the Activision "Call Of Duty: Black Ops" video game on November 4 at the Hangar 8 in Santa Monica, California. The report, which aired on November 9, can be viewed below.

Regarding its participation at the event, the band previously said in a statement, "Our friends over at Activision, the fine folks who bring you the 'Guitar Hero' games, noticed a small hole in the METALLI-tour schedule in between Australian dates and rang us up to invite us to the launch of their next 'Call Of Duty' game . . . one thing led to another and next thing we know, we're playing at the party!!!"

The statement added that the event would raise funds for The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit organization that helps soldiers transition to civilian life and assists them in establishing jobs and careers.

METALLICA's setlist was as follows:

01. Creeping Death
02. For Whom The Bell Tolls
03. Fuel
04. Harvester Of Sorrow
05. Fade To Black
06. Cyanide
07. Sad But True
08. One
09. Master Of Puppets
10. Battery
- - - - - - - -
11. Stone Cold Crazy (QUEEN cover)
12. Enter Sandman

This was METALLICA's only U.S. gig for the rest of the year.

Activision released "Guitar Hero: Metallica" in March 2009. The band played a special release party for that game at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas that month.

This happened at the show I was at too, but I didn't see it happen at the time.

Yeah, the stage set up was great, just the band on a stage, right in the middle of the arena, everyone had a great view.
And they had these giant coffin box shaped lighting rigs that would move throughout the concert for different effects.

METALLICA Explains That 'Errant Beachball Incident' - Nov. 18, 2010
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett accidentally knocked a little girl off stage after kicking a large beachball at her during the band's November 11 concert in Sydney, Australia. The incident happened while the band was performing the song "Seek And Destroy".

METALLICA has issued the following statement regarding the incident: "In the whacky world of rock'n'roll, sometimes stuff happens which looks even weirder than it really is! And with context being vital in these situations, we just wanted to address something which happened on the tour the other night regarding a large beachball, a band member's foot and a little girl.

"Some of you will have seen on YouTube (or read in some reports) that Kirk knocked a small child offstage by kicking a beachball at her. That little lady is the daughter of the stage manager and dressing coordinator, who are fortunate to travel as a family on this tour. She was thoroughly enjoying watching the beachballs drop from the rafters, Kirk was thoroughly enjoying kicking the beachballs off the stage and back into the crowd as has been done every night on the tour, and neither of them saw the other. The poor wee one happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She wasn't hurt. She didn't go 'flying several feet into the audience.' And Kirk and she remain good buddies.

"It's very cool that everyone showed concern and support though, so we just wanted to say 'it's all good' and thanks for asking."

METALLICA's current run through Australia and New Zealand will complete the two-year touring cycle behind the band's 2008 album, "Death Magnetic".

The band has just released a second live EP, titled "Six Feet Under, Part II", as a follow-up to the eight-song EP it issued just prior to the band's current tour of Australia and New Zealand.

METALLICA will also release a nine-track live EP recorded in Nashville, titled "Live At Grimey's", on November 26.

Just saw them last night in melbourne.

Woke up this morning all fucked up like you do after a metallica show, even though I didn't think i was headbanging much or anything...lol.

Anyway...it was kirks birthday, and someone (an adult) dressed in a princess outfit like the one in the pic above came out after the encore and smashed kirk in the face with cake!! Then they hugged and made up. It was pretty funny.

METALLICA's ULRICH: 'I'm The Hugest U2 Fan — I Would Borderline Call Myself A Groupie' - Nov. 19, 2010
Australia's Faster Louder went backstage at a METALLICA gig this week to get up close and personal with the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich. Over the course of 15 very funny minutes, he talked about everything from the band's documentary, "Some Kind Of Monster", to why he is unashamedly the world's biggest U2 fan. A six-minute condensed version of the chat can be viewed below.

"I'm, like, the hugest U2 fan — I would borderline call myself a groupie, actually," Lars can be heard saying during the interview. "Playing with U2… I would fucking play on the parking lot. They're one of the only other bands that are still functioning after 30 years, just like we are, and I feel a lot of kinship in what they do and I just really admire and appreciate… They're really inspiring to me. I love their music, I love their way of reinventing themselves, and I love their way or thinking big and small. And it sort of works on all levels."

As previously reported, METALLICA has posted an explanation online of the now-infamous "beachball incident" that occurred during the band's November 11 concert in Sydney, Australia. Video footage showed guitarist Kirk Hammett kicking a large black beachball off the stage, which in turn knocked a little girl who standing onstage into the pit. The footage of the incident spread quickly across the Internet, although it was clear from the video that the whole thing was accidental.

The band wrote, "Some of you will have seen on YouTube (or read in some reports) that Kirk knocked a small child offstage by kicking a beachball at her. She didn't go 'flying several feet into the audience.' And Kirk and she remain good buddies."

The band's statement added, "It's very cool that everyone showed concern and support though, so we just wanted to say 'it's all good' and thanks for asking."

METALLICA's current run through Australia and New Zealand will complete the two-year touring cycle behind the band's 2008 album, "Death Magnetic", although the band may do some touring in 2011 and is confirmed to headline Rock In Rio next September.

METALLICA will release a nine-track live EP recorded in Nashville, titled "Live At Grimey's", on November 26.

METALLICA Throws 'Surprisingly Tame' Party In Melbourne To Mark End Of 'World Magnetic' Tour - Nov. 22, 2010
According to the Herald Sun, METALLICA threw a "surprisingly tame" party for their crew and tour members at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in South Melbourne, Australia on Friday night to mark the end of the band's massive two-year "World Magnetic Tour" on Friday night.

METALLICA members Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo wasted no time heading from Sunday night's concert in Melbourne to the airport and clambering aboard a private jet to whisk them off to the U.S.

METALLICA: 'Live At Grimey's' First-Week Sales Revealed - Dec. 1, 2010
METALLICA's new live album called "Live At Grimey's" sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in just a three-day sales window (Friday-Sunday). The effort is being sold as a standard CD and as a limited edition two-disc vinyl set in a gatefold sleeve.

Released on Friday, November 26, "Live At Grimey's" is available only at the approximately 700 independent record stores that support the annual Record Store Day, held each year in April. The set was recorded on June 12, 2008 at the tiny 150-capacity venue The Basement, located below the Grimey's New & Preloved Music record store in Nashville. The intimate gig was a warm-up for the band's debut at the Bonnaroo Festival that same weekend.

Drummer Lars Ulrich told The Pulse of Radio why the band decided to put "Live At Grimey's" out through independent stores only. "Pretty much all of my musical inspirations and roots can be traced back to independent record stores, where I sort of put my whole collection together, so when they asked us if we would release the Grimey's performance, it was what we call a no-brainer," he said. "So people that are interested in getting this and supporting the independent record stores, the mom-and-pop record stores, I mean it definitely has that kind of good vibe to it."

In announcing the album, METALLICA posted at its web site, "We were honored to be part of the first-ever annual event celebrating independently owned records stores, a.k.a. Record Store Day, with an in-store at Rasputin Music in Mountain View, California on April 19, 2008 and we're very proud to be a part of another special event with our friends at independent retail."
