Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%

I wish I had paid more attention to your post. Be careful with EBay, there's a Chicago DVD floating around that claims itself as an official release that's only the first half of the show.
Hope you didn't pay too much...
Here's the show...

Check the thread, it's all there. Only thing to be warned, is the Chicago show cuts off at the beginning of Paradise City, like many boots from that era.
I paid like 9 bucks - it was the video through Coma, which I knew wasn't the end of the show, but all of the dvd's I saw ended at the same place.
If I go through the trouble of downloading all the parts of the other video, can I throw them on a recordable dvd and play it like any other dvd?
Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
Every Christmas morning I pop open a bottle of whisky and throw on my Ritz dvd, crank it up loud and just lose myself in it. I remember my parents recorded that show for me when it was first broadcast in the UK, I was only 8 at the time and they were my favourite band. People forget GNR were so big they were like a pop band, Appetite had songs so catchy and so successful even children were into them.
I've actually found a betamax cassette that I know for sure has Queen live at Wembley on it recorded off the TV, I'm going to get it converted into dvd and I'm hoping that the GNR Ritz show is on afterwards. Betamax was so much better quality than VHS. Its weird, the cassette is tiny but its about 3 times the weight of a VHS cassette.

I'd dearly love a proper ritz dvd to come out one day.
It comes close to capturing some of that magic that exists when you see GNR live. When the whole becomes a lot more than the sum of the parts. There's mistakes, there's people grabbing at the instruments, there's that sense that it might break into chaos at any moment, that there's a whole lot of personalities pulling in different ways yet that they are bound together to bring you this song.
It's the fact that it's not flawless that makes it so kickass, there's so much damn raw ability present in this video, pure talent, pure songwriting, pure energy and pure chrisma like you can't measure - and early enough and in a small enough venue that it can translate easier to video than in the more arena based peformances.
It's kind of an "any show" yet an "every show" for GNR rather of that period than anything wierd happening, the usual drunkenness etc, yet that's what makes it so interesting, as they're clearly good enough to blow any other band off the stage.

Agree with that, but I would even go a step further and add that you have to look at the effect they were able to have on a ton of us with that drunken, mistake filled performance. Just goes to show what they had.

This is what the current GNR doesn't really have to me. Axl has went out and hired great, and in many cases more muscially advance parts, but the whole doesn't capture what used to be there.
I could say the same for Velvet Revolver and assorted other projects, but they're not calling themselves Guns N Roses.

I assume so. I haven't downloaded it. I got my copy of the full show, as well as the audio years ago.
Whether it's an IFO data file or AVI video file, where there's a will, there's a way.
And as for Ritz '88, that show represents EVERYTHING that Guns N' Fuckin' Roses is and was.

I love this. So much energy, so raw, wild crowd. Axl gets his clothes ripped off, gets back on stage just in time sing... This band was just a bunch of badasses...
