Am I the only person that doesn't really care about this?  I think 3/4 of the environmental shit is just made up to make people feel better about themselves.  Disasters happened long before man came along.  I wonder if T-Rex covered tar pits boiling over on their newscasts...

Couldn't feel any different from you.  It really saddens me, and sickens me. Millions of gallons of oil leaking into the Gulf & later Ocean, with no stopping it till the fall at best??   That's not "natural"

Ugh.  All the wildlife & fish dying.  Just ruined. That waters not gonna be clean for a long time.

The point is that it all happens for a reason.  Things happened before there were man made disasters.  Things will happen after we blow ourselves to bits in a nuclear war.

It's just the way it is.  If the oil didn't kill the fish, something else would (a bigger fish maybe?).  It doesn't matter if they were "natural" or not.  The animals that died aren't more or less dead because of how the disaster came about.  Ice ages, cancers, meteors, gunshots, volcanoes, plane crashes, tornadoes, fires, wars, hurricanes, car accidents, floods...does it matter what kills you when you die (other than maybe the couple seconds before you die)?

Maybe the earth would have other problems if oil wasn't being pumped out of it.  Maybe the birds or fish would create other problems.  I am a big believer in things happen for a reason.  We don't always understand why, but I don't think anything happens by coincidence.

Its not the death of the individual animals that matters as much as the effect that mass deaths will have on extinction rate in the area

If every America truely was pissed about this, every soul in this country would REFUSE tomorrow to go into work, and REFUSE to fill up their cars to do it.

The country and world's economy would come to a stand still.

Nobody's got the balls to do it.

Because that would be retarded.

Things go extinct for a reason.  The world keeps going.  T-Rex probably thought the world wouldn't go on without him too...

Yeah, the point about the animals dying is fine. Something will kill them eventually.

But it's the destruction of the gulf states' economy--or at least the huge hit they'll take--that is going to really sting.

They will adapt and find something else to do or they won't and they will fail.  Nobody is forced to do anything for a living.  Find another option.

That attitude right there is why nothing ever changes.

Enjoy your mininum wage, dependence on foreign oil, and letting BP and bible thumpers dictate how to live your life.

A corporation ruins someone's way of living and you take the "fuck them" approach?

What about those who have been doing a job their whole lives, it's a tradition in their family, and then BP comes along and ruins it, should we just wash our hands of that because 'they can always work at McDonald's or Wal-Mart!"?

It's not feasible.  Because everyone is going to know that if they stay home and their co-worker goes in, well he or she is probably going to look way better when it comes time for a promotion.

People are selfish.  And for that reason, it won't happen.  The only way it would work is if people were actually good and decent and cared about this more than they do themselves.

And there's also a large portion of the economy that can't afford to miss a day.  There's also a surplus of workers right now.  It would be all too easy to fire the ones who didn't show up and throw in the ones who want a job.

And on top of this great example, what about public transportation?  Should we boycott that?  Or how about airlines.  They use oil, should we quit flying and hurt them as well.

How about shopping?  Should we quit eating too since it takes oil to ship the food and harvest and process the food?

What about people who use natural gas to heat their homes?  Should they freeze?
