Re: New Hampshire Primary
One thing about McCain though, he has a hot young wife!
I think you're thinking of Kucinich.
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index … or-a-flilf
(They talk about Fred Thompson's wife in that piece too, but Liz Kucinich has a tongue ring for Christ sake.)
I liked McCain a lot better 8 years ago. I think he was a lot more staunch about his beliefs that didn't all lie in line with the Republican party then. At some point during Bush's presidency he decided he wanted to be president more than he wanted to stand by all that(obviously, just my opinion). Although he's still much less far right than most Republican candidates.
That said, he has a lot better chance of getting the nomination now than he did 8 years ago too, so maybe that was the right thing to do. I still like him better than most of the other Republican candidates(all of them that have a chance, sorry Dr. Paul), but with a lot of my views that isn't saying much.
I just hope that McCain and Paul make enough of a showing in the primaries to illustrate how much most people's views don't folllow right along party lines like most major politicians seem to like to believe. The fact that most elections are won something like 52%- 47% should show that. 52% was a failing grade in every test I ever took. Give me a viable 3rd party candidate and that's where my vote would most likely go.
Re: New Hampshire Primary
Can anyone give me a reason to vote for Obama?? I know Obama cant, but maybe some of his followers can pull a rabbit out of a hat. He doesn't stand for anything. Its always generalizations, or mentions something when a different candidate brings up the subject. Like Hillary, he just wants to be president, and will say or do anything to get it. He has no real reason to seek office, he just wants it.
I say let him live life another 10 or 15 years or so, then seek the office.
McCain is not going to be president. That ship sailed years ago. He's just too old. I know Reagan was 70 when he became president, but that was a different time and people were more accepting of it then. Besides, Reagan had the charisma of a 40 year old and had a vision for the country and the world, and his age could not be an obstacle. The same cant be said of McCain.

As far as your 1st paragraph, I can't give you specifics on Obama, but what you say about he and Hillary "just wanting to be president" is true of pretty much every candidate for this election.
That problem along with the fact that most of the candidates who do have a "real reason to seek office", their reasons scare the shit out of me.
As far as McCain, I do think he has the charisma to overcome his age, but I would agree that he doesn't necessarily have a clear plan, as you said.
It's yet another Tweetledee or Tweetledum election.

Re: New Hampshire Primary
It seems like Obama is the early favorite for sure but then again the same was said about Dean in '04. Nonetheless, whether it's Obama or Clinton that wins the nomination I believe that John Edwards will be asked to be the VP on the ticket. Obama and Clinton are the two front runners but there's no way that a Presidential ticket with a black man and a woman can win the Presidency at this point. I'm not bashing here I just believe that America is just not ready for that. John Edwards is the kind of guy that voters are used to and he'll bring a sense of normality to the ticket that is needed for the Democrats to win the White House in '08.
Re: New Hampshire Primary
If you guys are bored there is an alternative to the Fox news Republican debate (which Paul was barred from.) Ron Paul will take questions from an audience of undecided voters in the Granite State.. you can watch the stream here

Starts at 5pm ET. Which is in 20 min from this posting..

No way will Edwards be asked to be the VP. He's damaged goods from '04 and he'll soon be labeled damaged goods again in '08. More than likely they're gonna pick someone from a swing state like Jim Webb from Virginia or Ted Strickland from Ohio. There exists a couple other Democratic governors in important states as well. At best Edwards will have a cabinent role, and I question even the probability of that.
I'll say again though that I think a McCain/Guiliani ticket would almost spell certain victort for the Democrats if they run either Obama or Clinton. The polls indicate this and no amount of wishful thinking on some people's parts is going to allow extremist on either side to get into power. That is what is so insane about Obama getting the nomination; he represents the far left wing of the Democratic party much like Huckabee represent the Christian right. A McCain/Guiliani ticket will set well with most Republicans and Regan Democrats. It shall be an interesting election.

Obama would open a can of whoop-ass on McCain/Guiliani, wouldn't even be close. I honestly think Obama's about to explode & walk away with this thing. & I do think Obama/Edwards has potential. Change, and a Northerner & Southerner. Remember, some South states nearly voted Democratic last election, which has been virtually unheard of in recent years.
James, as for why to vote for Obama, he's a very bright guy, a gifted speaker, who is capable of making reasonable, logical decisions. 3 things our current president is not!! These attributes will help him and our country in foreign relations, and he'll put qualified people in appropriate positions (ie. NOT Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Gonzalez etc). Also, people knock him for not being a politician long enough have no idea he worked in inner city Chicago hearing the problems of the inner city & working with the community. I read his book & I swear to God 1 section seemed exactly like the Ice Cube movie 'Barbershop', to a T. Also, he served on the Illinois state legislature. So in essence, he's a man of the people, who's gone from the mailroom to the boardroom, and that I respect. What the fuck did Bush ever do?? Ruin a few businesses, buy a baseball team, and run for Governor because he had the same name as his Dad. No wonder this countries fucked!!
And yeah he owns single female vote, oddly enough they didn't go for Hilary. But at first Hillary did get the black vote, but that is starting to change as they are realizing Obama is a candidate with a chance. Guiliani will NOT be VP as the dems are taking NY.
Re: New Hampshire Primary
While Bush created a huge fucking mess here at home and abroad, I do not think he should be used in either sides campaign strategy. Anyone with a brain knows we are in a very fucked up position, so there's no use in preaching to the choir about Bush. These guys just have to concentrate on trying to win, and offer up at least a few possible solutions. Only solutions. Don't start Bush bashing just hoping it will bring in votes. This country is suffering from Bush fatigue, and not only wants him out of there but is also sick of hearing the name. Bitching about the Bush presidency could backfire on either side.
While just a few weeks ago I predicted a Hillary presidency, I now think she is pretty much toast. Obama killed her, and like Bush fatigue, I believe there is also Clinton fatigue. No one is interested in 4 to 8 years of hearing the name Clinton. It went Bush-Clinton-Bush. Bad timing for anyone with one of those last names.
Hillary thinks she's entitled to the office, and I think its a big turnoff for voters. I think that killed her just as much as the rise of Obama did.
If Rudy does not win the nomination, he will not be selected as VP by anybody. He has too much baggage, and no one is interested in his 9/11 public service announcements. Besides, like Pasnow said, the Dems are taking NY, so its pointless to add Giuliani to the ticket.
Its too early to accurately predict a winner, but I do know this........whoever wins the democratic nomination is going to be the next president.

10 to 15 years in the Senate will kill your chances. Being a Senator is bad for running a presidiential race, the media and your opponents will have tons of votes to bring up when trying to bring you down. It'll hurt Hillary, already has. IMO, now is the perfect time for Obama to run. Not saying its the best time for him to be president, but he has a great chance. Bush has lost all charisma to the point that many people can't stand to look at him.
One good thing about Obama is that he brings instant acceptance from many other nations in the world, and we must admit they exist and have impact. I truly believe we can have allies with him as our leader. Lots of European countries that used to like us would currently consider our population stupid, based on our leader. Obama could change that reputation. Huckabee would worsen it.
Re: New Hampshire Primary
I do agree that the road to the presidency is easier traveled as a governor. Good point about Obama's lack of a record actually helping a bit at this point, but I really don't think he's ready to lead the nation.
This is just a cluster fuck of candidates. I'm gonna have difficulty supporting any of them. Its a reason I want the wheat separated from the chaff pretty soon so we can all get more of an idea where all these guys stand.
