Re: Who do you want as the opening act?
I can see faldor's point, because I don't go for the opener.
But at the same time, in 2009, in theory if there was a North America show, i'd need some sort of enticement in terms of a new opener to get me to shell out that kind of money for a show. Short of MAJOR setlist changes from top-to-bottom, I wouldn't go. Not because I don't like them, I just saw the same show in 2006 - twice.
When those rumors were flying about a VH/GN'R double headline, I was interested because I haven't seen Van Halen. It didn't have anything to do with GN'R, and they would've gotten me out there.
A Shinedown or Alice In Chains would get me out there. Hell even another artist from the 80's! But Baz... again? No thanks. I saw it once, and skipped it the other. It's not impressive - at all.
Re: Who do you want as the opening act?
I would go see the opening band if they were worth going to see. And sometimes that goes more for my friends than I. I would've gone to see Baz last time but my friends wanted to drink at the bar pretty much up until GNR hit the stage. And well, I like to drink, so they didn't have to twist my arm. If the opener was a band that really attracted my friends, then that would do it. I guess Baz didn't fit that bill that night. Part of it too though, was it was a night ot in NYC, which is cool in and of itself. We took full advantage. The bar we were at was jamming GNR, beers were probably a little cheaper than inside MSG, so why leave?
Re: Who do you want as the opening act?
^^
Exactly. In hind sight, I regret going to the show as early as I did. I saw Baz. I saw Papa Roach, and it was okay, but nothing earth shattering.
Frankly there's alot of shit to do on Channelside. I would've rather just hung out at the bars and clubs out there, or went to a titty joint, which there's one every block in Tampa, until it was 10pm or so, then went to the show.
Much rather would've done that.

I never said those were good choices either, in fact in your previous post you quoted me saying they weren't good choices.
I am just saying that whilst it would generate quite a bit of buzz it would not go down well with a lot of the hard rock crowd who'd go to see GNR. And a lot of M.I.A. fans would probably leave before GNR came on.
You're missing the entire point of having a relevant artist as an opener for a band known for half empty arenas and tour implosions.
The point of an opener isn't to please you and the other 4 to 5 thousand people in the ten thousand seat venue. It's to sell those other tickets.
This band isn't U2. Hell, U2 has headlining acts when they don't even need them, while GNR uses relics from the Jurassic period when they actually need a major act.
If GNR could sellout venues here, it wouldn't matter and I wouldn't give a shit. The tour always implodes on this side of the pond due to general disinterest though, and they're gonna have to bring something to the table not named Sebastian Bach. If its a repeat of 2006, I'll once again be buying a ticket to a show that gets postponed, then canceled. A solid opener would be a "game changer".
Re: Who do you want as the opening act?
I'm the opposite. I could care less who the opener is, as I rarely go in until the main act is ready to play. I like Papa Roach, but only saw them play their last 3 songs when the opened for GNR. I missed Baz altogether.
Have you seen Baz play before? Do you just not like him? His music? Both?
I understand people being upset and wanting something new, something bigger and better. But it shows Axl's loyalty to his friends. I think he's thankful to Baz for being there for him over the last couple of years and he's showing his appreciation by bringing him along to tour. Maybe he'd rather do it that way than try to get more asses in the seats by picking a more relevant band. I too don't know much about Danko Jones, maybe THEY are that band. Someone on HTGTH mentioned how Ron is friends with guys from the band.
Haven't seen him play before and am not interested. And funny thing is. I like Skid Row. I just hate Baz. The guy is so fake that he makes Pamela Anderson's boobs look real. He hates it if people compare Skid to Poison and I can understand cause well Skid Row and Poison were as different as night and day. But I think Baz is one of the main reasons people thinks Skid Row is glam. He looks like the guys in Poison, acts like the guys in Poison, talks like them except that like I said before, to try and prove he's not glam he swears profusely. I have no problems with swearing Axl does it. But when you do it make it mean something. When he talks you'd think he revolutionized music. When I hear Baz talk I just wish I was deaf to me he is that annoying. And plus, before CD was out he'd always say how he knew when it was coming out and blah blah blah. Anyways in case you missed it in my post. I fucking hate Baz. *lol*
Re: Who do you want as the opening act?
when i saw him in 06 he played a bunch of skid row stuff...it was cool i like skid row...i dont htink hes too popular up here though, he's considered 80's cheese metal...peopel that liked SR in the 80's-90's though would dig it im sure...that happens to be the same crowd that were gnr fans so i think it'll work
