If it was the PSX Metal gear i would have voted it but against 3 i'll go for Punchout
Re: GnREvolution Arcade Madness - Round 2, Battle 2
Punchout is one of the greatest games ever made. MGS is as well.
Again Punch Out has been surpassed but this is like voting a silent movie over an epic. Games have come along leaps and bounds and whilst the achievements of the old should be acknowledged claiming they are a better video game than some of the later stuff is not right.

There's nothing special about MGS. Hell, its a lame sequel for fucks sake. Many fans of sports video games still say Punchout has not been surpassed. You think shiny graphics is all there is to it without even taking gameplay into consideration. You're also not taking casual interest into consideration. If you beat Mike Tyson, you were the talk of the town. Peoples jaws dropped in shock. Pass MGS, no one gives a flying fuck.
I'll take a silent movie that kicks ass over an epic that looks good any day of the week.
Back in the late 90s when I used to buy games from stores like Gamecrazy, A used copy of Punchout was still going for 40 bucks, and it was usually out of stock. That is insane. Most Nintendo games were selling for a dollar at that point.
You could get newer used games for half that price.

I never said graphics in that post once. Fact is as much as I like to go back down memory lane and play older games, when it's linear arcadey stuff like Punch Out, Pac Man, Tetris, Space Invaders etc Yes they are fun but games have came along leaps and bounds and I'm not just talking graphics. Gameplay obviously a lot more can be done and there can be a great deal of variety especially in MGS in the way you progress through the game, you don't have to be stealthy you can clear certain areas using a variety of methods. And with an engaging story that I admit is a bit cheesy and contrived, but I'll be damned if it doesn't get you hooked, you can't say Punch Out is a better game.
Games have came on by miles, they're no longer fun toys, they are up there with music and film as an art form.

No, but its implied because you shit on games more than five years old.

A game doesn't need to be "leaps and bounds" ahead to be good. What made Pac Man so unique, innovative, and addicting was its simplicity. It didn't need to be anything else. They actually spruced this game up a bit years later but nothing beat its original gameplay.
You want leaps and bounds? Go play Dragon's Lair, Gauntlet, or Tron.
Just because games have better graphics, longer levels, etc. doesn't make them "leaps and bounds" better.
