As big a fan of the new band as I am, I do agree that VH's audience, as a market group, are pretty likely to want the old band and potentially be hostile to the new players, just because it's an old school crowd, and also, likey to be guitar fetishists (cos of eddie), and so more likely to notice its not the original guitar players than some audiences.
Slightly OT, but I read someone complaining about Megadeth the other day that "it's not really a band that exists" as mustaine changes line ups quite often, and that made me think of GNR and what people say here, seems some of the issues GNR fans have exist elsewhere too.
For the record I'm a huge fan of Chinese Democracy and now Endgame...just saying what's out there.

Yeah, Megadeth is much more of a Trent Reznor situation.
Axl didn't suddenly take the wheel 'til everyone jumped out the bus. And in alot of places he just put lyrics on whatever his session musicians came up with, which is an entirely different dynamic.
If Axl was Dave or Trent, he'd of been right there ordering them to play what he had wrote, even instrumentally.
It's a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, if Axl does it the way he actually did it, then it's more a band atmosphere, but he's relying on non-Guns N' Roses personel to complete his solo album. However, if he pulls a Dave or Trent and does it all, then he's a nazi, and is a dictator in the band.

Did anyone ever actually believe that Guns N' Roses would go on tour with Van Halen?

VH fans and industry people NEVER thought it'd happen.
But some GN'R fans (looking in the direction of HTGTH), thought it was totally realistic, it would happen, and to denounce the possibility, you aren't a real "fan".
That's how they roll over there.

Well, I sure didn't but it hasn't got anything to do with relevancy if you'd ask me.
It's just the combination of GN'R and Van Halen... No.
