Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
Cochise doesn't even come close to the greatness found on CD.... just my opinion.
I don't dig Cochise that much, but I think the point he was making with the example is valid.
You could use any song that really connected with the masses as an example. It doesn't have to be overtly pop, it just has to have that click people want.
Audioslave in general at the time filled a spot that people (kids, frankly) were looking for, but yet had a quality level that could be respected even if you didn't really care for it.
Chinese Democracy has a quality level, but nothing that a kid looking for that something can grab on to.
I don't know a way to put what I'm trying to say less vague than that, but Appetite and the Illusions had it and that's why most of us are still around today.
Like was said a couple times before, with music if you can't get young people to care, you're fucked.
Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
if the "'99" leaks were any indication, the product was about a 1/4 of the quality of what we ended up with .... IMO anyway
as for cochise....well we know how much i Love Chris Cornhole
I disagreeeeee. I love the siren on IRS. Remember, that was all TAPED leaks, so, mastered and mixed I bet Sean's version would have been great.
Whatever it sounded like before Bucket left I'm sure was also great.
I mean I like what we got, but it did miss the energy of actualy having people in a room all together and build from whatever's going on currently.
That was a costly rejection, indeed.
I always thought CD would have a good place in college radio, but by 2008, that just wasn't the case - not with these kinds of songs at this moment in time / not without promotion to get people excited about it (video on Youtube, talk show, blog, anything...).

A...men!
Chinese Democracy-the song, slams anything on that album.... and it's not even the best track on the album.
Hell, Shackler's Revenge owns anything Audioslave has ever done. :peace:
Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
Like Jorge stated, Cochise is just a general example of what the album lacked. You can use many songs in place of that, but its a pretty good example as it was Cornell starting over with a new band and he had something to prove. You might not have liked it, but many other people did and that's the point.
Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
Alot of people also like Hinder.
Not slagging Audioslave, i'm just saying it's not a measure of 'quality'. Success... yes, sales.
CD is and always will be underrated. I've been on that side of the fence from the get, and i'm gonna enjoy staying there.

I don't think CD sounds dated at all. I can hear music right now that uses some of the same elements as CD and its still light years beyond most of the shit that's released today on top 40.
I agree with the top 40 statement but I really fail to understand what people would say is so modern about the likes of Catcher etc.. many of the songs on CD could have been on UYI III, that trademark piano style and vocal mannerisms Axl uses are pure 1992. Lots of the guitar work is that GNR/STONES interplay so big at the time also. The likes of Shacklers is not so like that I grant you but the old 90's GNR is very much at work in SOD, TWAT, Prostitute ad Catcher.
Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
This thread was bumped a few times, neither time with much mention of it still being their best selling album and not costing $7.99.
