Highly likely, this scenario.

This album was never destined to be a hit.

While I think the album would've done better with Wal Mart I don't think it'd be as successful as say ACDC if the band took their same silent stance.

I don't see how you could argue the album wouldn't have sold better at Wal Mart though.  That's pretty self explanatory.

I agree it would have sold much better at Walmart.

I just think if it really had "hit" potential they would have released it sooner.

"It's a great GN'R record," says Tom Zutaut, "but is there a hit single? Because without the hit, you can't sell 20 million."

Yeah it may have suffered overall because it doesn't really have that one song that stands out among the others.  I wouldn't know what to play people if they asked to hear the best song on the album.  I'd probably go with "Better" as that seems to be the popular pick, but that is far from my favorite.

It's tough to tell though, since no single was pushed by the band.

Not really, it's just the pipe dream that supporters use as an excuse for the failure of the album.  Keep in mind that CD broke all kinds of records for streaming at myspace.  People heard the album, they just didn't like it.  Make all the excuses you want, it doesn't change the reality of it.

CD broke all kinds of streaming records because of forum fans playing it over and over trying to help the hype. That's my opinion anyways.

Everyone I know that actually listens to the album with an open mind finds something to like.

I found something to like.  It wasn't enough for me to buy the album, but I did buy the song on Rock Band.  Finding something to like and the album being good are two completely different things.

There were way too many hits for that to be all internet forum geeks.  Even if it was, wouldn't they have been telling their friends how great it was if they thought it was great?  Wouldn't at least a couple of those friends have bought the album?  No, you can't dismiss that as forum users.

Selling more does not equal totally different legacy.  This album has the legacy it deserves.  It was a disappointment in every way and everything involved with it from tours to sales to promotion falls right in line with the disappointment.  Wal Mart couldn't have saved this mess.  Sorry.

You didn't even care to buy it, buzzsaw.

Why do you care about sales?

I have not found another person my age with any inclination to try it. I forced a couple into listening to a variety of tracks like ChiDem, Better, If the World, Sorry... but only one liked any of them.

I don't, but I'm not the one claiming Wal Mart would have completely changed the legacy of CD.  I'm just pointing out the obvious.

I don't have to bring up the sales anymore.  The truth is out there for everyone to see - I'm not here to rub it in people's faces, but if someone is going to make idiotic statements like "Wal-Mart exclusive = CD has a totally different legacy" then you can't be surprised when the actual sales of the album are discussed.

The album failed because it wasn't what people wanted to hear when they bought a Guns N' Roses album.  I get that some people love it and that is perfectly wonderful.  What we think is meaningless in the big scheme of things.  There aren't enough of us to make or break an album.

Critics said good things about it, forum people said good things about it, it streamed on myspace like crazy, and it still sold like crap after week 2 with neither single registering on the radio at all.  You can't blame all of that on BB or Axl Rose.  Sooner or later you have to accept that the general public just didn't like the album or at least what they had heard from it.

Thanks, I was just curious. I didn't mean to start anything.

While we don't agree I do appreciate your opinion.

the #1 reason CD didnt sell well is that the band didnt promote it....peopel dont give a shit if best buy or universal sells promo space, the fans wanna see the band they love speak or do interviews and stuff...if axl woulda done an interview or 10 then its highly probable that public interest would've been higher....i was talkin to a buddy last night, he is floored that after 13years that it came and went with virtually no fanfare, he said he heard CD like a half dozen times and Better once on the radio (though he didnt know the song names) he was afan in the 80's-90's but he just didnt have his interest pique'd this time around, even enough to bother listening to the album when i brought it to his place one weekend
