James Lofton wrote:That album will be topping the charts. Gonna be killer to hear some new old material, but I hope they aren't using this to pacify fans instead of that quick follow up to No Line.
No they won't do that. This release was planned long ago. The follow up to NLOTH which is called Songs of Ascent won't be out till next year though. There's still a for sure third leg of the tour in 2010, possibly a 4th leg so they'll want the news osngs for those legs I'm sure.
Anyways I was pleasntly surprised to see NLOTH is the 2nd best selling album of 2009 so far world wide. Of the albums on the list I'm pretty sure it's safe to say over time it'll easily distance itself from the pack not including the MJ albums. Lady Gaga at #1. Pathetic. The numbers are low for U2 standards but I guess in the 2009 climate of economy and downloading it's to be expeceted. I honestly didn't think it'd impact U2 this much though. Maybe I was a bit naive. Maybe it's thier own fault for releasing Get on Your Boots as the lead single. If the figures below are incorrect I aplogize. I got them from a discussion on a U2 site where some fans were saying U2 decided to tour stadiums behind a poor selling album.
Best Selling Albums in 2009 WORLDWIDE as of WEEK 36
1. Lady Gaga The Fame 3,385,000
2. U2 No Line On The Horizon 3,295,000
3. Michael Jackson Thriller 2,635,000
4. Eminem Relapse 2,608,000
5. Kings Of Leon Only By The Night 2,585,000
6. Michael Jackson Number Ones 2,439,000
7. Taylor Swift Fearless 2,413,000
8. soundtrack Hannah Montana: The Movie 2,320,000
9. Beyoncé I Am... Sasha Fierce 2,306,000
10. Green Day 21st Century Breakdown 2,183,000
11. The Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. 2,159,000
12. Michael Jackson The Essential 2,037,000
13. soundtrack Twilight 1,980,000
14. Pink Funhouse 1,875,000
15. Nickleback Dark Horse 1,770,000
wow
Those numbers just highlight how few people are prepared to pay for music these days
It's a reality, but a shame I must say. The romance of going out and buying an album is well and truly a thing of the past. Almost to the point of sales for albums being totally irrelevant
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
Those tour stats are insane. They are pretty much the Stones now.
Some guy on Sludge who posts various info on upcoming tours has said these are the tentative dates for the 2010 leg of the US tour....
June
19 Seattle, Qwest Field
22 Oakland, CA - Alameda County Coliseum
25 San Diego, CA - Qualcomm Stadium
28 Denver, CO - Invesco Field
July
1 Minneapolis, MN - Metrodome
3 Green Bay, WI - Lambeau Field
6 Cleveland, OH - Browns Stadium
8 Detroit, MI - Ford Field
10 St. Louis, MO - Edward Jones Dome
13 Miami, FL - Landshark Stadium
17, 18 Foxboro, MA - Gillette Stadium
20 Philadelphia, PA - Lincoln Financial Field
24, 25 East Rutherford, NJ - Meadowlands Stadium
-----------------------
Would have preferred Frisco, but I'll settle for Oakland.
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
Just got home from my trip. Saw U2 twice in Toronto at the Skydome and then last Thursday at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. There isn't a band on the planet that puts on the show these guys do. Muse was a deadly opening act in NJ.
They were decent on SNL but wasn't overly impressed with that performance of Moment of Surrender
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
U2 will be streaming their concert from The Rose Bowl in Pasedena live and for free on youtube this Sunday, October 25th.
