Why would it change faldor?

Hell, we all know the story. I walked into Best Buy, Sunday, November 23rd, 2008, D-day as in Democracy baby, and all that was there was a little stand that said "Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy" all over it, of four sections, two were CD for $11.99, one was AFD for $7.99, and one was GH for $7.99

There was a big dent in it, so of course people bought it, but other than that the staff was clueless, and paying no intention, then when you brought it up to them, they didn't even pay any mind.

Apparently if it doesn't say Kanye fucking West on it, they don't pay any attention these days.

Heads would've ROLLED if that was my album sitting on shelves. They didn't do ANYTHING to promote it, and they're not gonna start now.

Wal-Mart... I still can't go into that fuckin' place TO-DAY, and not see AC/DC - Black Ice splashed every fuckin' where, with AC/DC - Black Ice tee shirts all in the men & boys sections, AC/DC Live for Rock Band all over the electronics section, and still a front display with Black Ice all over it at least in the electronics section, sometimes still up front in same places.

GN'R going with BB is the equivalent of Bill Buckner and the missed ground ball in the 1986 World Series. That's what they look like. GN'R are the Red Sox, and AC/DC are the Mets.

still pisses me off...

Well it took the Red Sox 18 years to rectify that, so we should be all set come 2026.

I guess I'm not surprised that nothing's changed, I just don't get it.  You'd think they'd want to move some units while they can.  And while I don't think they'd exactly be flying off the shelves if they made it apparent the price had dropped to $7.99, it might help a little.

The only thing I can think is they're in no rush because this exclusive period is nowhere near over and the $7.99 price will stick for quite some time.  So eventually maybe they'll get around to making that change, but they've got more important things to attend to in the meantime.

Maybe they feel that people that want cd already know about it and are gonna go find it. but then they shouldn't have put it in the ads.

Maybe corporate is out of touch with what's going on in their stores.
It seems that it wasn't pushed from day one which, i agree, is a bad move from a sales perspective.

Because Best Buy is another one of these American corporations that have no brain, no talent, no ideas, lightweights running it.

They couldn't find their own ass with a road map. That's the reason the American economy hit the skids the way it did.

BB just threw money at GN'R, because it's better they have it, then to let WM have it, even though they were never gonna do anything with it.

I've always wondered if part of the BB deal, was that they'd cover promo, like WM did for AC/DC, and BB basically bailed on GN'R, not the other way around.

Axl didn't need any help.....the two songs released didn't catch on. Radio played them and got a lukewarm reaction. Simple as that.

SOME radio played them. I literally talked to a DJ in my area that said there was no way he was going to play Chinese Democracy, Axl was a dick, and that was it.

I'm sure it happened across the country. Radio has an attitude that when you don't do promo for your own stuff... they won't bother to play it either.

The title track got a ton of plays in those first two weeks(although I didn't hear it). The laugh is when artists like M.I.A. were charting higher than them on rock charts.  She isn't rock, and instead of people claiming the singles were gaining "massive steam", they should have been saying, "we just got our asses kicked by a non rock single from MIA out for over a year. Game over".

Perception is everything. So are chain reactions. They had an initial push, but the interest in OTHER artists destroyed them. They didn't get even one single mag cover during the initial push. M.I.A. was on the cover of three major magazines during CD's initial two week push(one being a GNR nutswinging mag like Spin, which didn't even mention CD in that issue), and I'm pretty sure U2 was on the cover of RS at the time(no album out), or it might have been Green Day(no album out yet).

The writing was on the wall in the weeks before and after CD's release, but people wouldn't accept reality at the time. The second writing on the wall was one month later when the album failed to make 99.9% of every media outlets top 100 albums/songs of the year lists, including magazines that had previously covered the saga for years.

90% of its global album sales were in its first week(notice how line ups weren't mentioned during that push to confuse buyers), and it immediately flatlined after that. Then the fan base started grasping at straws trying to count album sales in Timbuktu and Antarctica to make people think it was a smashing success.

Joe and Jill Blow and the media decided this album's fate in week two. So go ahead and count the album sales in Cameroon if it makes you feel better....

This is why Axl should have made a huge statement with this project by shocking people with a two or three disc set. The album(s), regardless of their reception(or his involvement), would have been historic and Chinese Democracy would have been permanently etched in our culture, and not for the wrong reasons. The aftermath of such a release would have had major artists such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West, etc. wanting to eventually top the spectacle of it all. You know how over the past twenty years artists of various genres have pulled the '2 albums released at the same time' strategy? That never would have occurred had the previous balls and vision of Axl Rose not existed. He made such a release strategy possible for mainstream artists. Now he just follows the standard common denominator, and not very well.

The project deserved a huge send off by the man himself, but instead he became Geraldo opening up Al Capone's vault(instead of dusty, empty beer bottles it was leaks), and the world sighed and the media laughed.

My thoughts exactly James. Like I said earlier, if the material wasn't good enough he should have made people not care about the material with a three disc set. Three discs and the whole it took too long argument would be gone. Many artists now take up to 4-5 years between albums and if he had released three discs it would have made sense. He definitely has the material it's just a case of whether any of it is good.

There's no doubt in my mind that the material we haven't heard is nothing but great, otherwise people wouldn't be raving about it.

I personally believe that we're yet to hear the "true" Chinese Democracy. What was planned for release back in 2002 sure as hell ain't what the world got last year.

If we ever get to hear it is a different story. It's ultimately up to Axl Rose and whatever he decides I'll respect.

Anybody remember the Best Buy promo vids? On 2 or 3 of them there was reference to 'History being made', which could allude, I suppose, to a 3 album release.

I wonder if a 3 disc release was at some point part of the plan?
