To this I say "Thank God." Trying to do something different just for the sake of trying to do something different is far less intelligent than sticking with something that works. Axl has been living in the 90s and released a 1995 album in 2008. Don't label him as some superhero that conquered a new genre. He put out dated material of his own.
I didnt say he conquered anything I said at least he tried, which he did.

Trying new stuff is one thing, it's fine. But it's not what I'm looking for from GNR, I don't want GNR to be anything else than what they were back in the 80's and early 90's. If I want a modern sounding band, I'll listen to new bands, you know? Axl delivered a mediocre, outdated sounding record that doesn't sound like anything I would listen to for the most part. Slash delivered a record that's a mediocre version of something that I would actually love. I prefer CB for that reason.
So if trying something new yields results like that, then be a man, scratch what you've done and go back to the drawing board.
And might I also propose that, although wildly unoriginal, IFOCS is artistically miles and miles beyond CD in my humble opinion.
Re: Velvet Revolver Still Mulling New Frontman
Likewise, if Slash played the guitars as they stand now on CD, people's heads would be exploding.
People's criticism against Chinese Democracy doesn't have anything to do with the music itself. It's about certain people being there while some aren't.
Whether individuals want to admit that or not is another story but that's just the way it is.
I'm not saying that everybody is supposed to praise it as a masterpiece, some simply don't like it, but the general public sure as hell ain't taking it for what it is.

"OMG, Slash has still got it! That solo on TWAT is so epic, so cock-stiffening! You can hear the emotion just oozing from every note!"
That TWAT solo is the only redeeming thing on CD as far as I'm concerned. I do hear the emotion oozing from it, and that's what sets it apart from every other song on CD in my opinion. I'm not sure I'd call it "cock-stiffening" but it is amazing and the only thing on CD worthy of the name GnR in my opinion.

Re: Velvet Revolver Still Mulling New Frontman
Slash may/may not be able to do THE twat solo, but we dont know what else he`d come up with that`d sound just as epic in his OWN style..
TWAT is practically the only thing I listen to off C.D, along with ITW, both bucket owned tracks, and with no bucket around anymore I`m not sure what we`ll get next (if we get anything).
Re: Velvet Revolver Still Mulling New Frontman
That scares me too Mick.
This new GN'R doesn't have a Slash or Bucket on the roster. Yeah yeah, I know all about how Ron & Richard are the secret weapons. Well, i'm hear to tell you, no they ain't. Bucket brought CD's material to a level, that wouldn't have been achieved without him. Hell, Ron's shining moment on the album (the guitar in Shackler's Revenge), mainly is because it was written by Bucket.
GN'R won't go the direction of that intricate, soulful shit they've done in the past with the next album. With Ashba on board, it screams one thing - "let's Shinedown this fucker up". Make it just straight up melodic AOR power rock, with Axl on vocals.
Personally, i'm fine with that at this point, because this whole shit with "it's gotta be a masterpiece" is a waste of fucking time, because it's an unachieveable goal. Even if a reunion of the old band were to happen, AND a new album from a reunited Guns, it'd simply be VR meets CD imo.

If Slash played the TWAT solo I'd shit myself. Mostly because Slash doesn't possess the skill set to play it as far as I've ever seen.
There are much more diffficult guitar solos on CD besides TWAT. Twat too me doesn't sound any harder than the solo in Serial Killer or any more emotional than Slash in Vocalise.

What do you think about Twat live? Axl hit some strong, powerful notes at the end.

I'd be fine with Shinedown-esque songs on vocals. Shinedown kick ass.
