Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
This is not getting a second wind now obviously, but I would not be surprised if it resurfaces on the Billboard charts in the 190-200 range. Probably wont happen, but if a few people at each store buy this during the sale, it will scrape the bottom of that chart.
When they eventually throw the album in their cheap section for 3 bucks, its definitely gonna reenter the chart. What sucks about that is the band wont even be able to capitalize on it because everyone and their grandma will know why it re-charted.
Looking at the top 200 list you can see it really doesn't take too much to make it on there. With that being said, I wouldn't expect a $2 decrease (it was $9.99 right, or was it still $13.99?) to lead to that many more sales. And even if it did re-enter the charts it couldn't be viewed as much of an accomplishment. Lord knows they most likely won't do anything themselves to help the situation.

I love me some Guns N' Roses. I love Chinese Democracy. I personally think Axl is the most talented entertainer living now that Elvis & MJ are both gone. Having said that, I'd love to sit him down and ask just what the fuck he is thinking.
In so many words, I'd ask your exact question.
Both Elvis and MJ got larger than life and died. You could argue strongly that their enormous fame led to their demise. Not saying that Axl put the brakes on things to prevent becoming TOO famous, but that has happened for whatever reason (not Axl putting on the brakes, but him/GNR peaking early and not sustaining that popularity). And they're all still alive. I think there's a strong possibility that wouldn't be the case if the band never broke up and kept going down their destructive paths.

Had GNR stayed together a couple of them would probably be dead by now. On the other hand on the possibility that they would've cleaned up anyways, GNR has to be the biggest joke in music history. A band that had it all and was on the verge of becoming one of the biggest bads ever and they fucked it up BIG time. Another case of a band becoming too big way too fast.
Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
I've always been of the belief that the same exact tension that fueled them to be "the most dangerous band in the world", was the exact same fuel that destroyed their engine.
It's kind of like that couple. That get together and have an AMAZING sexual chemistry that it's just like earth shattering great, because they are like cocaine-fueled bunnies in the bed... but all of that same energy a few hours later has the cops being called, because an argument led to one of them pulling a knife on each other. Then they curse each others name, and have amazingly epic make up sex, and then just repeat the cycle tomorrow, eventually getting divorced, but at the same time, not being able to shut up about each other 20 years later, daily, on and on, still living in the past, talking about their great love that one time, and another day "that bitch" they used to be with.
That's GUNS N' ROSES.
Re: Now on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy
The saga continues. I went to a Best Buy today in CT to pick up a copy of CD for my car and there was absolutely NO INDICATION that the CD was on sale. The $13.99 sticker was prominently displayed and no signs of any sale going on or reduced price stickers or anything of the sort. So I brought the CD up to the check out and asked for a price check, telling the cashier I was pretty sure it was on sale according to this weeks ad. She said she thought it was still regular price but checked it anyway and sure enough it came up $7.99. I told her ALL the copies had the regular sticker price on them and there were no signs indicating the sale price but she didn't seem to care.
Way to go and take advantage of a sale Best Buy. So I guess unless you're a frequent reader of the Best Buy circular you'd have no idea Chinese Democracy was selling for $7.99 now. Of course this could just be an isolated incident, but I tend to think this isn't the only store failing to recognize or take advantage of the sale price.
It's almost as if nobody involved even wants this thing to sell at all, from the band, the record label, Best Buy themselves. Why have a sale if you're not gonna promote it in store?

Which just plain blows my mind. I mean worst case scenario, if nobody else cares you would think the people with truck loads of it would.
Maybe the Best Buy exclusive is a lifetime deal and they could care less when they sell them all by. They probably figure GNR will EVENTUALLY go on tour, and maybe at that point they'd try and push the album out their doors with a little effort.
