Re: GNR Chat Room
Do we really have a use for a chat room? I mean, our levels have pretty much plateaued right? At our current level, I dont see the need to have one.
I often wondered, does this site cost you guys money to run?
I've seen other forums fall apart over money issues, and others asking users for donations and running adverts etc.
This however raises a great point. How do you guys handle the finances? I'd have no problem chipping in to help this place.

Re: GNR Chat Room
I wouldn't pay for it personally, and I doubt it'd get a ton of traffic unless a leaks craze occurred or a band member stopped by.
Re: GNR Chat Room
Uhm, paying for chat rooms? Anyone can get a channel on almost any popular IRC network and it has the added advantage of not needing some lame-ass java or flash component to run. I would definitely not pay for something like that since it stands for everything that I feel is wrong with the internet today . Hell, get something on Quakenet or efnet, those places have multiple channels with several hundreds of users each at any given time and give away free bots to protect your channels...
Re: GNR Chat Room
Hosting costs have already been taken care of but the thought is appreciated
We've tried IRC a few times and its never taken off The only successful chat room we've had was written specifically for our board software, and thats the one our host pulled offline. I'll take a look at chatango, cheers strato.
If anyone has other ideas just shout up, theres no hurry to set this up, just gathering some feedback.

That's a valid opinion that many share, but the internet doesn't grow on trees.

The problem is I've tried most of them before To avoid making you guys install Java or Flash applets etc it has to be an Ajax powered chat, javascript and PHP thrown together and constantly connecting to the database. Most hosts don't like that because of the strain it puts on the server when making 2 RPC calls p/second.
I thought the IRC/Mibbit GUI was gonna work great for us but half the time members couldn't connect
