Re: GNR Chat Room
Due to the popularity of our old chat room the host quickly shut it down, something about gobbling up server resources 
I've been shopping around for a paid, ad-free service and found a possible chat provider. Before I shell out $500 I wanna know if members here would be interested in chipping in? Kinda like a premium chat room.
It would be $5 per year, limited to 100 signups on a first come, first served basis. If you don't pay you don't get access.
Hate having to charge for access but I've got a holiday to pay for and not wasting another $500 on GNR 
The service I'm looking at is:

The alternative is to go for the 50-user plan, probably a more reasonable target, which is about $8 each per year for access.
Thoughts everyone? Or alternative ideas?...

I dunno, what purpose would a chat serve? We barely have enough interesting topics here. IRC channel seems the way to go.

waste of money if you ask me,but then again I hate chat rooms.

Could you get 100 users, mabye 50 is more realistic? I'd pay for a year even if I dont use it, not a huge fan of chatrooms, but not opposed either. Theres always the chance of having a "guest" speaker 
I often wondered, does this site cost you guys money to run?
I've seen other forums fall apart over money issues, and others asking users for donations and running adverts etc.

You'd have to get famous people in there to do chats, otherwise it's a waste of time. Nobody is talking GnR anymore. You might have better luck just going to yahoo messenger or some other service that offers free chatrooms that can be made private. I used to visit some site that had rooms like that when I was playing a lot of poker, but I can't remember what the service was called now and I uninstalled the messenger.
