Ah, but those probably are the fruits of the labor... I'm sure the money Bucket made while in GNR has allowed him to be a much more prolific solo artist without having to worry quite as much about how many units he's selling. As talented as he is, he's still a niche artist or an acquired taste.

I agree with the comment from the guy that it's a fine line between genius and inanity too. I can see that if you want great players around for this kind of project you need to pay what it costs to give them the space and situation they need to do somethign wonderful, but then I can also see how eventually money is just burning with no progress too.

It's a shame bucket didn't do more great works (at least that we heard yet) in GNR...those solos like on soothsayer....man if he'd have brought that stuff to the table. TWAT is a taste but even it is somewhat tame.

I'd have loved to see what someone who wrote traditional songs, like Izzy, would do with bucket around too. Cos bucket's riffs get a bit zainy...I'd have liked to see him work more within traditional rock structures, but bring his sence of melodies and scary skills. But I guess he is who he is.

It's why I'd like to see bumble and dj too. I feel that could be a bit of shredtastic stuff, but within a more classic rock context and less experemental.

There must be tonnes of different versions of songs from those sessions, with Bucket taking the lead on entire songs, same goes for Robin. If you have that much time on your hands your going to play around with all the material and try come up with something. Axl just pieced different contributions together.

I wonder who played on the album version of Catcher before Ron came in and added his parts over the top? There must be a Bucket/Robin version in the vault that was ready to go before giving Ron the song.

That show above was pretty funny, and made light of the situation, without being insulting.

What's even more intriguing, like others have stated, is that Bucket was able to put out about a dozen albums afterwards, several of which were very good, and he wasn't getting millions from a big record company to do it.

I think GN'R taught Bucket alot of lessons of what NOT to do as an artist.

I was reading that guitar magazine interview with Tom and his interactions with Buckethead, which really put Bucket in a new light to me... Seems Bucket's biggest problem was working on the same material over and over and not releasing anything... And Axl not wanting Bucket watching hardcore porn while recording for inspiration so not to let the bad porn vibes on the record. 16

You know from managers to band members the one consistent among everyone involved with CD (no matter who was doing the interview) is the frustrations about all the recording and nothing getting done or released. Everyone seems to have the same problem... Except one man.

So I'm guessing If The World is good porn vibes? 16

I sort of get what Axl ment about music capturing something spiritual...i can see why you'd want to be careful.

Anyway to me...bucket to me is twice as wierd as Axl.

I mean why bucket has to do this circus act is beyond me - he's clearly one of the top 10 players in the world on technique - yet he distracts from that constantly - i could even accept the outfit if he then didn't pretend to have mental illnesss in interviews. I used to think it was funny but at some point i just wish the guitar playing could be allowed to stand without the crap.

I mean, sure Axl seems to have his ups and downs, but this is a guy who doesn't want to record the album unless he is sitting in an indoor chicken coop, with a dog turd smelling out the place, and noodling while watching extreme porn? While being payed $50k to record? I'd maybe have said something too!

Nothing wrong with Axl being anti porn. I'm not into it either. Having said that, its a slightly odd stance to take when you have a musician of that caliber on your payroll. If he's laying down a Soothsayer solo, I wouldn't care what he's looking at as long as he's getting the job done. Now if Axl was in the studio and Bucket was whipping that crap out, I can see him telling him to put it away. But if it was a general stance he took for the entire sessions where he usually isn't even there, not sure what he was trying to achieve with it.
