Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
Because the biggest issue with CD is the fact the entire album is dated. That was a major contributor to it's flop. As long as Axl keeps trying to rework 5-10 year old tracks, this will remain a problem.
By starting fresh, they wipe the slate clean, and have a fresh start.
I think the main reason the songs sound dated is because we HEARD the songs 5-10 years ago. An album of fresh material wouldn't sound as dated. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!
I think it'd be a shame just to throw out good songs because the guys who created them aren't around anymore. Just don't play them for people at strip clubs after hours and we'll be all set.
I would like to hear what the current lineup could come up with on their own. Maybe do a mix of "new" and "old" so to speak. But I love CD, so I don't see why I wouldn't love whatever's left in the vault. CD hasn't sold well for a number of reasons. But the fact that the songs SOUND dated is way far down on the list as far as I'm concerned.
Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
" Generally I really like my rythm parts, for me they're the most important think I recorded, they changed a lot. After those parts songs became more rock n' roll than industrial. "
I wonder how accurate that translation is, it doesnt seem to match what I'm hearing on the record. Meaning I dont really think any of the songs would have an industrial sound without his additions.
Maybe he's just referring to the fact that a lot of people were referring to a lot of the songs, or the album in general as more industrial. He did bring that sleazy rock groove to "Chinese Democracy". I agree though, the songs don't sound industrial to me.
Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
I think it's a shame to throw out good songs to. But at this point I don't think there's any point in continuing on material, with the guitar work primarily constructed by two artists who are no longer with the band.

Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
I'd like to hear both.
I feel DJ, Fortus and Bumble, could write some pretty cool classic rock on roids vibe style stuff. I feel without bucket and robin the new material may be less industrial sounding and that's fine with me....
Likewise, if great music in the style of CD still exists from the bucket/tobais/robin combo by all means let me listen to that too. A good song is a good song.
I'd really prefer both though, as ignoring the talents of the new guys to focus on old stuff could be a waste of what we have now.

I don't care if they are rough or unfinished if it means not getting it or getting it unfinished, as a GN'R fan....... I want it all and i want it now.

Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
I was just thinking about it actually...and I know Axl's been given loads of crap for redoing band members parts with new band members over and over - but the one logic i could see for that would be to try and make the songs still viable as new material for the band. You know like the master plan seemed to be to release an album, then tour it, and so it made sence in that logic..or would have if it had taken less time...if the album had been promoted normally, and then toured. lol.
I'd love to hear whatelse Axl has in the 'vault'. Didn't pitman say he'd done 200 songs/part songs with Axl? Don't mean to get into the conspiracy 'big gun' theory - but just on the average of Axl's output, in 200 demos there would have to be some golden tracks we havn't heard yet. So maybe one day it'd be nice to hear some of that stuff.
But yeah..likewise I'd love to see the current GNR sort of solidify, it'd be awesome if we kept this new line up for a while, and if they wrote with DJ and generally if things settled down into a more traditional working band mould. But of course things do tend to go there own way.
For now given in the scheme of things we just got CD, i'm going to just wait for a tour
Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
I've never heard 200 songs, that seems hard to believe. The lineup changes certainly haven't helped the situation over the years. You're absolutely right, Axl wanted everyone's presence to be felt on CD as far as the current members go. But at the same time he loved what Bucket, Paul, and others contributed. Not trying to compare Ron to Bucket, but when he joined the band they at least had someone to take his place and play his parts. Unfortunately when Robin left they were back to square one. Now they have to bring DJ in to learn Robin's parts and tour the album which he had nothing to do with. So while it's easy for us to sit here and say get out there and promote this thing already. I'm not sure it's that simple.
"I'm really proud of this album and we're going on tour. Oh yeah, and the 2 main guitarists on the album are no longer in the band. One of the guys has never recorded a single note in the history of GNR. Come check us out!"
With that being said, I still want to hear whatever's left in the vault from the Chinese sessions, the "double album" Axl spoke of at the very least. I don't know if I could wait another 15 years, if THIS lineup was to start writing music now.
Re: New Bumblefoot Interview In Polish Rock Magazine
This "band" needs to sit in a studio and write music and then release it like any other band. Not go through 650 changes and 40 different members. It aint rocket science.
And see maybe it is. I've always wondered that because Axl is trying to construct a band, that maybe none of the lineups he's put together have any chemistry in the studio to write and record together. Even CD came across as an album with all seperate written and recorded parts, then thrown together to make an album.

Yeah i've been trying to find where I read it. Starting to wonder if i'm just going nuts
I'm sure there's an interview someplace with him where he talks about the writing process...and i was quite facinated...he said something like Axl has a guest house with studio toys built into it and at one stage he moved in there for months at a time and that the two of them worked on hundreds of song ideas.
I don't think it ment full songs, more like ideas for a bridge in something one day..random experiments....i dunno. But if there's even a hint of truth to that it makes me wonder what's languishing on an HDD somewhere waiting for the muse to strike them to finish it.
But I might be remembering it wrong. Does anyone else remember what i'm talking about or am i just tripping out?
