I'm just being honest. I see nothing in this group of characters. They're all skilled in their own right, almost 3 shredders on guitar (personally I see that as a problem). Talented yes. A band I'm waiting to hear new material from? No. They'd have to prove it to me first by releasing something of their own first.
I agree. Take Axl out and NOBODY would've ever heard of thos guys. Nothing against them but as it stands right now, this lineup leaves me feeling very indifferent.

Obviously Axl is the main reason I follow the band. That's not what I was trying to say. But to call the other guys "hacks" is a bit strong, don't you think? And DJ has had a hand in writing some pretty big songs over the last couple of years, so why shouldn't I be excited at the prospects of what they could come up with.
The word "shredder" gets thrown around way too loosely these days. I hear plenty of songs on CD that involve little to no shredding at all, and I don't know if I've ever heard DJ shred anything. And of course we all know how Richard went and shredded "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera during his solos. You're right, these guys are one dimensional and there's no hope. (That was sarcasm)

Nobody heard of The Replacements? Nobody heard of SixxAM? I know the guys aren't household names, but you're making it seem like Axl went out on the streets and picked the first guys he saw.

I will try to control myself....BUT, if you didn't know who Tommy Stinson was before he joined Gnr, then you have and had a VERY VERY limited knowledge of the history of rock and roll and to narrow it down, rock and roll in the 80's. He was not a sunset strip household name, but if you grew up in the 80's and appreciated alternative, critically acclaimed rock, you knew who The Replacements were, had one or two of their albums, and respected them as a gloriously fucked up reckless balls to the wall band....especially the Mats from '81-'87.:headbang:

I'll give you The Replacements, and I'm sure GnFnRAxl would too as he was making more of a blanket statement, but come on. SixxAM?! Get real. Nobody heard of them or cares about them. And while The Replacements were a great, well known band, no one cares that their bassist is in GnR. It's not a selling point. It's an "Oh I didn't know that".

Visually, the word that comes to mind looking at DJ is: poseur.
HOWEVER ... I downloaded the 1st Beautiful Creatures album, and playing-wise he sounds exactly like Slash. For me, that's a good thing.
IMO, Bumble's leads are awful, but I do like his sleazy fretless rhythm guitar work on the album. Visually, again he looks like a giant tool. And he doesn't party.

I havn't slept so i'm sorry if this post isn't sence making.
For me, as a guitarist, I have a stronger focus on guitars than an "average joe" listner, so I would be still interested in what this group did sans Axl, although, obviously Axl's an incredible vocalist and so i'm glad he is part of the equation.
It's somewhat philosophical I guess, but I've just been feeling a lot that as a fan base we're all so hurt by what's been lost that now even if something great came along we might be blind to it.
And I'm not for a second taking anything away from the old guys, Slash is the reason I learn't guitar and a god to me, bucket is unspeakably amazing..I love them both. But sadly, things are what they are, and it seems they arn't comming back, and truth be told, no one can ever be those people but those people. Which i think is what upsets so many of us. people feel these guys are replacements and just not quite right. and that's a logical way to view things given it's all marketed under the GNR brand and all that. I'm not really arguing that point, but for me, i've found solace in considering it new, i just ignore the name issue in my head, and I look at what these people can actually offer now. And the moment I stoped demanding richard be izzy, I realised richards fucking great at putting in little dynamics into his playing, and as soon as I could accept that bumble isn't bucket, but brings his own flavour to things I began to marvel at the amazing shit bumble does.
I'm not saying everyone has to think this way. I just thought i'd share my approach as it's brought me quite a lot of happiness to my fandom.
Allowing myself to listen to some of these players works fresh and free from the baggage has really opened my eyes/ears to how good they are and what potential exists.
I'm not saying everyone does this, but I know in the past I was blind to some of their ability just because it's different to what the last player had. Like DJ is never ever going to be slash. that's just reality. But that doesn't mean he can't do something really really cool in a totally different way. I feel like i've been dating a brunete with the tightest pussy in the world, but I didn't care because all I wanted was my blonde ex-girlfriends ass, and just figured out my mistake. Can't say it much better than that
