They needed to build & tour GnR from the ground up. Little ampitheater shows, radio festival circuits etc. I guess the problem with festivals is they probably wouldn't be considered unless they were going to play last, which I imagine they could. Not many other bigger bands touring on the festival circuit (Same mainstays, 311, Offspring etc).

Couldn't/wouldn't open for Green Day, Metallica porbably turned them down. They are kinda pigeonholed now that I think about it. But they certainly aren't going to sellout outdoor stadiums seating 50,000+.

They have to tour as a headlining act, regardless of venue size. U2, Metallica, AC/DC,etc. would laugh at them. Those bands sell out venues in minutes, meaning they don't need GNR to put asses in seats. Neither does Van Halen, and the ONLY reason that tour rumor made any sense whatsoever was the Azoff connection.

GNR is gonna have to sink or swim on its own merits. They could easily grab a couple relevant musical acts(not Baz) as openers and it would help things tremendously, but this needs to set sail even if its the Titanic.

As I've stated in other tour related threads, they can have a successful tour as long as its limited in scope. No more scheduling arena shows in the middle of forests and dairies. Hit the major markets and thats it. Amazing that they've went years without being able to comprehend this.

I guess owning the name has bitten him in the ass.  Under "Axl Rose Solo" he might be taken more seriously and have more options for touring.  I guess under GNR its all or nothing.

The only salvation I see for the new band being able to headline, and do good ticket sales at this point, is if they put together something like Crue Fest, where it's a traveling festival show.

I'd like to see that but I wonder how many bands would be willing to sign on to something like that. Axl's generated a lot of ill will and a poor reputation for being professional on tour. But A7X and Papa Roach were willing to open for GNR in 06 so maybe some big-ish names would bite.

Hey man, I'd kill for a show involving Avenged, and Guns.

They could easily get a lineup like:
GNR
Avenged
Shinedown

Even in April it was clear there would be no summer tour, dates would have leaked out. Autumn/Winter is still on though, plus there is still time to release Catcher In The Rye with a cool video to become a summer anthem.

14 CITR a summer anthem?  Oh man....... no comment. I have many but it's just not needed 16

Catcher goes well with lots of sunshine, fact cool

This I Love makes me think of snow, so they should release it just before the Christmas period.

Madagascar has a yellowy orange feel to it, so that would do for autumn, you'd need something a bit heavier anyway after all that Catcher sunshine.

I dunno where the ITW/IRS double single will go now, that should have been out in the spring and both on the airways now hmm

There are no songs on CD that have a seasonal feel to me.

Now Buckethead... that's another story.
