Re: Matt Sorum: Axl shouldn't tour under GNR name
It wouldn't be a deal breaker with Izzy, but it wouldn't make sense either.
Izzy was a recurring special guest star in 2006. Despite his non-committal to alot of stuff, if ANYONE was the first to return to the fold imo, it'd be Iz.

Re: Matt Sorum: Axl shouldn't tour under GNR name
Maybe sorum was just trying to not insult gilby too much. He spent a lot of years with that guy. But more over...
While Izzy was key for writing and I have a ton of respect for him....I think the general public will accept the UYI line up ...Gilby, Sorum, Duff, Slash and Axl as GNR in a way that they wouldn't accept any of the new line ups. even if it wasn't the GNR from AFD.
I think that's all sorum was getting at...I'd say you could probably take it further and say basicly anything with Axl and Slash would be GNR to most general public.
many harccores like us respect Izzy, duff, and steven and to some of course the new band people as well...and realise that the sound is fundementally changed when any of them goes....but I think to most in the world they rememebr a dude in a tophat and a dude in bike pants and a bandana...and that's what GNR means to them.

Only reason I reckon he said "probably Izzy" is because Slash and Duff stayed in the band allot longer than Izzy did. I don't think he meant it as a dig at him at all.

Re: Matt Sorum: Axl shouldn't tour under GNR name
I also think it could be that Izzy was an afterthought because he is manly talking of Slash and Duff who he is currently stll in a band with. So it wasn't that izzy is less but more that he wasn't someone who springs to mind as fast...
Re: Matt Sorum: Axl shouldn't tour under GNR name
Well and monk brings up a good point with the Gilby reference.
For Sorum to acknowledge Gilby's irrelevance by saying "definitely Izzy", then he would undermine his own position in the band as a hypocrite, because couldn't the same logic be applied to Steven being in the reunion as the drummer.
Sorum doesn't want to miss out on that reunion check, and if Gilby can equal reunion, then he can be apart of it as a 'former employee'.
Now I don't personally look at it that way. Matt was a full-fledged member in my eyes, as the drummer on the Illusion albums.
Although the lineup didn't last long, i'd like to see that UYI studio/1991 band as the reunion when it happens.
Re: Matt Sorum: Axl shouldn't tour under GNR name
well matt was on every song (Exceot CW) on the UYI's as well as TSI...so some of the amterial that made the band famous he had a hand in writing drum parts for...Gilby only appeared live and on TSI..no orig guns material was ever released that gilby had a hand in creating
