Re: Something I just noticed on the Axl/Slash thing
I was re-reading some of Axl's recent comments and i started wondering about this:
There's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty. He wrote that whole bit about not having his guitar in Vegas, I'd assume, to save face. I was told by both the Hard Rock and different Guns industry people who had come out to be supportive of the new band and were a bit surprised to see him there, especially guitar in hand, but just assumed it was a surprise for the show and we were in on the arrangement.
Now I think Axl is responding to the story slash told, which I think goes something like this: e was in Vegas, saw an add in the paper for GNR and thought, "I wonder what GNR's show is like as an outsider" and decided to go check it out, but told a few people he would go, word got out, and then GNR managment, unknown to Axl, wouldn't let him into the building.
I dont have the quote from slash handy, so not sure what he says about the guitar...but looking at it overall, there's a few posibilities:
1. Slash was planning on jumping the stage with his guitar and making a scene. With bucket there and all.
2. Slash was planning to go and chat to Axl and co then watch their show, but brought his guitar just in case things somehow got resolved first. Doesn't hurt to be prepared.
3. Slash had a guitar with him as he'd come from doing somethign else guitar based first.
4. The hardrock and industry people lied to Axl for some reason.
5. Either Axl or Slash is outright making stuff up.
It's wierd when you hear these stories. Sometimes I wonder if the whole Axl/Slash mess isn't just a serious of miss comunications that's gone right out of hand for years on end. Anyway old news now...but just came into my head and was interested to see what anyone else makes of it.
Re: Something I just noticed on the Axl/Slash thing
The context of where Slash was seen with the guitar was never explained. If Axl's people had seen Slash checking into his hotel with his guitar - big fucken deal. He's a guitarist of course he is gonna take that around with him so he can doodle around on it in his room etc. Maybe he bumps into some people he knows and jams with them one night or something.
But the suggestion that Slash was going to try and jump on stage with his guitar I think is so completely absurd it's ridiculous. For the GNR camp to think he would actually do this and not look like a complete idiot is simply staggering.
Instead the GNR camp were the ones that looked like tools for doing that and jumping at shadows. The fact it still gets mentioned is even funnier. If I (or my camp) did something stupid like that I can't say I would be bringing it up in conversation again, I would be trying to forget about it.
Re: Something I just noticed on the Axl/Slash thing
It sounds to me like management should have just told Axl that Slash was planning to attend the show instead of what happened. The GNR camp looked liked assholes for kicking the guy out who wanted to just see a show. Couldn't management have just said to Slash, "hey we'll let you see the show but keep it low key because we don't want the misconception that you're rejoining the band."

Re: Something I just noticed on the Axl/Slash thing
Yeah it's just always sounded like one of those stories where there is something more to it. Like slash thinking he could show up at a GNR show without their being some kind of responce to it doesn't make much sence to me....unless he was in disguise...any media there is going to go crazy about it. Maybe he just didnt think about it. Then axl's story is wierd too..if the industry people thought slash was there as a suprise for the show why was he kicked out? I gues when they found out otherwise for beta or someone eventually. It's all very bizzare.

I was there that night. Saw Slash, and I didn't see him with his guitar.

Oh really? Wow...that's pretty cool. Sometimes cos I live so far away I forget people can actually go to stuff!! You know like i read about these things and it's all kinda surrel...didn't think that people from here would have been there. Pretty cool.
Re: Something I just noticed on the Axl/Slash thing
I think people should just stop thinking about it,it's not doing anyone any good anyway.

Yeah i'd forgoten about it until Axl refrenced it recently.
Re: Something I just noticed on the Axl/Slash thing
I'd say the biggest possibility is that management saw Slash. And at one time they even saw him with his guitar. And so they freaked out. They gave Axl the story, making sure there was NO chance of them being accused of anything at all. "It was all Slash's fault, they were just the heroes of the hour making it turn out for the best". Axl took their story, fell for it (or convinced himself it was valid) and there you go.
However, it also shows how short-thinking Slash was. Most bands breaking up stays away from the other part. I know a singer who left his band for the past 20 years and would not even listen to the new albums with their new singer. It was too painful and just brought up a lot of memories. Good and bad. And sh he moved on. Slashs excuse: "I wanted to listen to them" sounds weird in my opinion. There was something going on.
So one can say Slash had an agenda, management fell for it big time, over-reacted, then told Axl their side of the story and the mess just made them fall deeper into the mud they were in.
