There's just no way you can be a GNR fan and hate Slash. Dislike some of his post GNR material? Nothing wrong with that, but to say some of the tripe that gets posted at these sites is just unreal.

I hope this isn't directed at me since all I did was make a post on something I found funny with that last picture.  There's no real hate in my comment I just found it funny that he seemed more interested in his PDA.

Regarding your second point, most of that bs--Slash bashing--is far worse on the other two sites.  I remember reading a thread last year where they had an entire thread on the inaccuracies of Slash's autobiography.  That thread quickly turned into a shitfest on Slash.  I do think we should be able to be critical on a person's actions be it Axl, Slash, Steven or whomever without being called a hater.

Most of my comments on Slash have been positive and my screen name is an homage to his guitar playing.  I do have some issues with his stuff since Snakepit though.

Definitely wasn't aimed at you, and wasn't really aimed at any specific person. Just a general comment regarding the GNR communities as a whole.

I agree... It's fine for people to like either band line up...but the disrespect around is quite simply unfathomable.

it's a tradgic legacy of the slash/axl fight it seems....axl doesn't like slash for personal reasons...therefore some people feel the need to hate him.

It's the same with the minority of slash fans who express their love of slash by insulting bucket when bucket is clearly also an awesome player.

I like to think that in say 20 years time, the politics will be lost and the greatness will remian of all the music from all sides.

The on-stage Axl/Slash chemestry was one of those rare things found only a handful of times in generations.

I think a lot of the Slash hate is from a small percentage of people who swallowed the whole online anti Slash propaganda campaign that originated from htgth and Axls hangers on.
Go and look at the Velvet Revolver section at htgth and just look at it, full of self righteous, hypocrytical, dishonest mindless trolls - and thats just some of the admin. Sane people try reasoning against the bullshit attitude, but its a complete waste of time - that motherfucker is paid to spout bile against Slash and shout down on anyone with a differing viewpoint.
How can you argue with someone who will swear the grass is blue and the sky is green if their hands are crossed with enough silver pieces?? 17

I thought a little less of Slash after I read his book, not for anything major, just that he never really seemed to accept any responsibilty for much, no matter how fucked up on heroin he was.
I think anyone who reads a book written by an ex heroin addict would find it hard to swallow that so many things can be going wrong around them whilst they are in a drug filled haze, and they are at least not be to blame for some of the commotion.

But fuck it, I'd still love to meet Slash, Axl, Izzy, Duff and Steven no matter how much they fuck up in their lives. I've loved that band and their music since I was a boy in 1987/8 and it will never change.

Anyone who bashes Slash on his GNR legacy on a GNR site is either lying or just plain fucking dumb.

I actually forgot how good of a performer he was, been to busy keeping up with the new band.
I've been watching lots of old videos on youtube, like the chicago 92 show, and that guy is a rock god for good fucking reason, not by fluke.

I was lucky enough to meet Slash after the Ron Wood gig in Dublin in 2001 and he and Ron were absolute gentlemen.
I will always be a fan because not only do I love his GNR work, what his solos brought to Axls music etc but also on a personal level he was gracious almost shy and very decent to my buddy and I and was happy to have a beer with us and talk music for a while.
He didn't have to be but chose to be, legend.

Olorin,
You're right about HTGTH, I've seen decent fans call for sanity and respect towards old members be treated very badly by Jarmo the cyber messiah and his tiny island of nutswingers.
That started my problems with Axl. I couldn't believe a man of his stature would be so insecure and weak that he would need a team of those goons to create a forum that must be devoted entirely to his genius with no dissent or even logical questioning allowed. Did Jarmo suddenly decide to be an asshole or did Axl instruct him to do so?

Either way, it would still make him an asshole lol.
I get the impression that some people think they will score brownie points with a few others, if they adopt a certain attitude. Its like they are desperately hoping to be noticed and be invited to a private party.

I dont get it at all, some people are just alien to me.

An interesting question.

It's apparent from his interviews that Axl himself still has a problem with slash. It would seem that many who surround him share his view points, folks such as Del James, Beta and others who have made public statements similar in intent.

My belief is that Jarmo, in his capacity as head of one of the largest GNR communities, was approached by GNR managment to assist in normal media discourse. That is, they approached him as a way to present informatuion to the fan base when they wanted to, and to assist in shooting down false rumours, and probably also to enure he doesn't do things unacceptable to the brand. (he is afterall using their trademarks etc). This is all quite proper.

My belief then is that he was given access to the band and managment, and because he was a huge fan, he found this fantastic and overwhelming and was understandably keen to foster the relationship and careful not to do anything to damage it.

I doubt he was formally told to bash slash, but I suspect it's more of a case of "when in rome, do as the roman's do". As he got closer and witnessed hostility to slash within the GNR family he  naturally would have stoped posting defences of the old band, if those defences were likely to upset those in managment or Axl himself. It's then only a small step into joining into the group of people who do bash slash.

I think jarmo was put in a very hard situation, he'd be desperate to keep his ties with Axl and co, but at the same was previously a fan of VR and so forth. He found himself wound up in the politics all of a sudden.

I doubt Axl phones people up and tells them to insult slash, but when Axl himself calls slash a cancer and insults the UYI albums, , and when such things are posted on the offical site, and when you run an unoffical site trying to keep it's approval from managment, then if you are a person who want's to keep favour with Axl or better yet impress him,  then it's not too hard to guess what kind of spin to begin posting with...even if they've never been instructed to.

To be fair, I think Axl gets a lot more hate from Slash nutswingers overall than Slash does from Axl nutswingers.  To me the majority of the "hate" Slash receives from Axl nutswingers is backlash regarding years of horseshit from certain people
