Re: Axl = Rock God #11
tejastech08 wrote:Bono, regarding your "jealous" comment, let's put it this way. I don't think Axl or Bon Jovi deserve a seat at the same table as the likes of Led Zeppelin, the Stones, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Dylan, et al. Neither Bon Jovi nor GN'R are in that league. That is rarified air and that's why I'd say that neither lead singer from those two bands should be referred to as a "rock god." It's debatable whether Slash should belong at that table or not, but I'd say he belongs far more than either singer.
That's fair enough but alot of it just comes off as people being bitter. I agree though the list losses alot of credibility wih the abscence of Keith Richards
And Bonham, who had a huge influence on every drummer since. The list simply doesn't have credibility when you leave off the likes of those two guys but include the likes of Axl Rose and Bon Jovi.

Re: Axl = Rock God #11
The Brits like polls, and their latest is a survey of 4,000 music fans to decide who in their opinion is the ultimate rock god. They voted their own Freddie Mercury (Queen) the Ultimate Rock God with Elvis Presley second and Jon Bon Jovi third. The remaining rockers in the top ten were David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne, Kurt Cobain, SLASH, Bono and Mick Jagger. None of the Beatles made the list. (???) SLASH was particularly puzzled as to why the late, great John Lennon was not on the list.

Re: Axl = Rock God #11
Or maybe a new generation aren't on their knees, cupping Lennon's balls.
(with all due respect to Lennon)
Those two statements in your post seem to be a complete contradiction. Congrats for achieving that. :haha:
Re: Axl = Rock God #11
to me there are three kinds of frontmen:
The ones that entertain and put on a show,
the ones who are all about the music
and the rare few who are both and great at it
I think Slash and Axl fit that criteria and both belong much higher than 8 and 11 on that list, in favor of kurt cobain and jon bon jovi
i've been reading these arguments supporting bon jovi and i agree with some of the points but i just don't think he has all of the attributes as the other guys. Being popular and selling a lot of records and selling out shows is commendable but when your ass and your pretty face are integral to this success you are not a rock god.
kurt cobain belongs on the list, just not that high.
