Re: The BATMAN Thread

I think Begins porbably is the superior film. The story is more cohesive and it makes sense and Gotham truly has its own unique character (Gotham in TDK looked exactly like Chicago). There are things that happen in TDK that make pretty much no sense or are taken for granted, and the editing is too fast - cuts are too frequent.

TDK is such a spectacle and has such great acting that these things are forgiven. It's more watchable and feels shorter than Begins, even if Begins is techincally superior. When I see TDK again on DVD someday I'll judge it again, but I saw it twice.

Three million copies of Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight were sold on Tuesday, the first day of its DVD and Blu-ray release, Warner Home Video announced Wednesday. Some 25-30 percent of them were in the Blu-ray format, a record. The previous record was set by Iron Man, which sold 260,000 Blu-ray discs on its first day in release last September. "The Blu-ray sales of Dark Knight were exceptionally strong and much higher than our projections," Warner Home Video President Ron Sanders told the Los Angeles Times. Some writers attributed the record sales of Knight to strong demand for Blu-ray players over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Also I wanted the middle class guy to blow up the other ship, but I don't think I'll hold that against them.:haha:

I won't say I wanted the guy to blow up the ship, but I think in reality he would have. It was a nice way to trump the joker in that good triumphed over his madness but if that situation was to really occur one of those boats would be blown up I feel sure of it.

I agree on your assessment of the joker, any flaws the film has and it does have some are just melted away by Ledger. He is simply sensational. That scene you quoted I could watch a million times, his mannerisms are excellent. I love the emphasis he puts on the T at the end of 'No...I'm...not' it's so cold and menacing it gave me chills.

And those EYES. Ledger said in interviews months before any footage came out that his Joker was more about the eyes than the smile. He was right. When he says, "No I'm not..." the look in his eyes is scary as shit. Badass motherfucker in da house! 9

And except for the scene where Gordon is "killed" you have no idea that it's Ledger. Voice is different, look is different, mannerisms are different. There's simply nothing resembling the guy from Brokeback Mountain and Monsters Ball.

Extremely impressive performance.

that was the great thing about this movie. i tried to look behind the make-up and see heath ledger but it was almost impossible. he was the joker all the way.

I can't get over this character. Seen the movie 5 times in 3 days.

I consider it one of the best and most interesting performances of all time. This is Raging Bull material. The Godfather.

I'm like Jimmy Conway, I always root for the bad guys in the movies. This is one of the rare instances where the villain is treated with respect, and I'm absolutely in love. This film actually made realize why Heat, Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Star Wars and Die Hard are my favorite movies. It's all about the antagonist. The cold rationalist.

so i saw it...i'mn gonna need to see it again but my first impressions were that Ledger pulled alot of inspiration from Nicholson's joker...i know i';ll prolly get flamed for that but if you dont see it then you're in denial

i got the impression from alot of people that it was truely haunting character, and downright frightening but maybe it was built up too large for me, but it didnt quite get there for me, i felt the story kinda dragged in the middle again but not as bad as begins...anyway like i said i've only seen each once so now that i've seen them both i will sit down and watch them back to back and see what i think of  them then

You might want to actually watch Nicholson's again if you really believe he was a huge influence on how Ledger played the character. Jack Nicholson didn't invent the Joker, but people seem to think he did. There's many stories over the years that played a far bigger role in influencing Ledger's version. It's in the comics, not in what other actors have done. If there's similarities, it's because the comics also influenced the other actors. Ledger completely immersed himself in the role. Nicholson didn't. Unless you think that was Heath Ledger's normal voice. I know for damn sure it wasn't and I also know for damn sure that it was Jack Nicholson's normal voice.
