I suppose it's not a big deal since you don't have to watch the first one to understand the plot of the second one.

I think it does help though to have that emotional connection to Bruce, Alfred, Rachel, and Gordon.

Anyway, its vote count has doubled on IMDB and the rating is STILL at a staggering 9.7. 46,000 fucking votes. That is amazing. Still #1 obviously. At this point I wonder if it might be able to stay in the top 15-20. I was thinking it would be great if it could stay in the top 50 because that would be pretty much doubling up Batman Begins, which is right outside the top 100 right now.

The problem is, because movies are made for money first and artistic reasons second, and the rights are owned by the studios who make them for the money, by the nature of things, EVERY movie franchise WILL continue until a BAD movie is bad. It's ironic huh. Like this is the perfect way to end the series. But batman is a billion dollar franchise...and there is ZERO chance of WB not making another movie when this one is making them millions of dollars. Businesswise they'd be insane if they did that!

And if Nolan does not come back, the fans have every right to ignore the crap released by WB. Just like X-Men fans should ignore the third movie since it was just a cash grab without Bryan Singer directing it. But I will say that if they can bring in someone like David Fincher, you could have another great Batman movie. And I think given his history for making movies with tons of plot twists, a Chris Nolan Batman movie with the RIDDLER would be awesome. As badass as this Joker viral marketing was, imagine how crazy the Riddler stuff could get. And the movie itself could be a total mindfuck like Memento or Prestige. TDK was already far beyond the reaches of a typical superhero movie. It had a crapload of plot twists. It makes Batman Begins look like a typical superhero movie by comparison.

As long as they dont' ever consider Jim Carey for the Riddler again, and get someone who can bring a very serious, very scary aspect to the villian.  That was a huge problem with every Batman movie, they were too corny.  I just watched part of Batman Forever today and it made me cringe.  "Holy rusted metal Batman!"- I cringed when Robin said that.

Now, if Val had played Batman in the original movie with Nicholson, it would have been a much better movie.  But in that one, the problem is Batman.  In the second, it's Batman and the villians.  In the third, it's the cartoon characters of The Riddler and Two Face.  In the fourth it's Batman, Poison Ivy, Bane and Mr. Freeze.

Another thing, no Robin if they make a third.  Bringing Robin in would only take away from the story i think.  I feel he did that in Forever, and also made Batman look like a pompous asshole.

I admit that The Riddler has potential to be an amazing villian if done right, like they just proved they have al the potential to do.  If a third happens, it has to be Nolan.  Period.

At this point... trust in Nolan.

The franchise is the best it's ever been, and Nolan is the reason. If they bring someone else in, it would turn into Batman Forever or Batman & Robin.

I also want to say I liked Batman & Batman Returns. I thought Tim Burton did a good job and created a great atmosphere. But Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were terrible. Clooney was an awful Batman, Keaton & Kilmer were decent Batmen... but by far Christian Bale is the best.

The Riddler would be tricky. Like everyone else has said, the trick is to avoid making The Riddler overly campy. Ledger was able to do this with the Joker, and it would take a skilled actor to do it with The Riddler. Jim Carrey ain't it, lol.

Completley agree.  Batman and Batman returns were great starts to the franchise way back when, but the other two after it just killed it.

I still find The Penguin and Catwoman a little laughable though.  To me, Burton could have picked better villians.

The Joker was tricky to reinvent as well, but look at how well they pulled it off.  The created the best villian i have ever seen in a movie.  Light years beyond any villians in the past 10 years.  The real trick is to find the right actor who can really make it as funny as it's supposed to be, but at the same time seriously scary.

However, i think putting the Riddler in the third would be tricky for another reason as well- it could be too much like The Joker.  The characters are similar in ways.

I read somewhere that after this one, in the next one (if it happens) there will be a villian(s) from the comics that hasn't appeared in a Batman movie yet. I'll put a source up when I find it.

Even though Chris Nolan's take on Batman is the real deal, Tim Burton's two Batman movies are still favorites of mine and they were what introduced me to Batman when I was a kid. Danny Elfman's music score never gets old.

Anyone who has seen the Animated Series version of the Riddler knows that he is a kickass villain when handled properly. Unfortunately, the 2 major versions of the character on film have been total camp-fests (Batman '66 with Frank Gorshin as the Riddler and Batman Forever with Jim Carrey as the Riddler). Nolan would make him an incredible villain in my opinion. He and his brother are so fucking great at coming up with all-around smart screenplays, I really do feel the Riddler fits their style. I would love for them to come back, but I totally understand if Nolan wants to move onto different projects. But hell, if they can even get Jonah back to write the script, as long as they have a director who takes it seriously it would work out pretty well. Jonah Nolan is a bigger Batman nerd than his brother. In fact, Chris wasn't really a Batman nerd growing up whereas Jonah actually was one. Chris was a casual fan but he totally fucking gets it, whereas Burton never got it and didn't give a damn if he did or not.

Don't get me wrong, I love Burton's two movies but he had some serious fuck-ups in those movies.

1. The Joker is not the murderer of Batman's parents. The entire idea is that Batman is fighting crime against a nameless thug, not just trying to get revenge on a supervillain who coincidentally killed his parents.

2. The Joker should never be killed off in a movie or cartoon adaptation. EVER. He never was killed off in any adaptation except Burton's. Huge fucking mistake, and I think Nolan was actually making fun of Burton with the end of Joker's plot in TDK. I love how as he's falling he is laughing his ass off. Burton's Joker is screaming "ahhhhhhhh" because he's afraid to die. Nolan's Joker actually wants to die if it means that Batman has broken his one rule.

3. Penguins with rocket launchers in Batman Returns. This element was a huge WTF moment. Felt like something out of Batman & Robin actually.
