meh. I have a  friend who is a  lawyer(pretty damn good really) and she's mid 20's. Katie Holmes looked fine as far as age goes for me. the way she talks is just her. Its' not unprofessional or professional or anything. It's a certain quirk. I think the real issue with Katie Homes is she's still and possibly will always be looked at as Joey Potter from Dawson's Creek. It's like having Mathew Perry in a movie. He's always playing Chandler. It's an association people make and it's hard to get rid of for some actors.  I also think she gains alot of hate because of the whoel Tom Cruise media blitz thing. She was America's little sweetheart before that. Ina  weird twist her relationship wiht him has destroyed her career.

I just find it hard to believe anyone thought her performance was so bad that TDK is better off with her being left out of TDK. Was she not asked? Did she decline? I dont' know. I do know I hate when movie series use different actors to portray the same character.  Like Star Wars using that little kid for Phantom than using Hayden Christensen for Clones and Sith. Shit like that bugs me. Shoud've just used Hayden from the start and I just think they shoud've stayed with Katie Holmes. Maggie's performance won't add to the movie in my opinion cause it's a bit part. "the love interest" Anyone can do it.

Bruce Wayne is Bruce Wayne and Batman for god's sake. He could have anyone so for me it's less believable he's interested in homely Maggie Gyllenhall. Katie Holmes was at least somewhat believable in that sense

Shallow I know:haha:

Bruce isn't interested in bombshells. They are nothing to him but part of his mask in public. Rachel is a smart woman that he's known his entire life. That's why he's interested in her.

Hahaha. No I get that.  I'm just saying he was interested in "Katie Holmes" not "Maggie Gyllenhall" in BB. Just for me I see no apparent reason why she was replaced.  Others see it, I just don't.  But whats' wrong with likeing a smart, intelligent woman who you've known your whole life who happens to be a bombshell? 16

So fill me in though. Did they just recast her roll or did Katie Holmes not wanna do it?

Katie claims she turned it down but I personally think Nolan didn't ask her to come back after the backlash over her performance in the first movie and with how she marketed it on Letterman's show. She talked about Tom's War of the Worlds movie instead of BB, which is what she was there to promote. It pissed off plenty of Batman fans because she was the only cast member that even appeared on any of the late night TV shows. TDK has a significantly stronger showing this time around with Eckhart, Gyllenhaal, Caine, and Freeman all appearing on late night shows. Bale is appearing on the Today Show, which he also did for Batman Begins (he doesn't like appearing on talk shows). Plus a bunch of the cast is appearing on the View (LMFAO). Eckhart was on the Tonight Show last night and it was great. Very funny interview plus some good comments on Ledger and TDK. Leno called TDK the best movie of the year.

I liked Batman Begins.  After seeing the 90's Batman movies it was a refreshing change.  Even though the Batman movies of that decade were successful they just "missed something" that I couldn't quite place.  Batman Begins brought the "dark knight" back to a more suitable form in my opinion.

my problem with her is that's her whole range as an actress, joey potter from dawson's creek.

she does nothing to get that image off her. she talks the same, she acts the same, even in real life. same smile, same expressions, same everything. she plays joey potter in every role she has. she doesn't make her character believable. like someone said earlier in this thread about jack nicholson "apart from a few roles, jack nicholson plays jack nicholson".

should i make a small comparison with heath ledger? i saw him in 10 thing i hate about you, a knight's tale, candy, lords of dogtown just to name a few. in each of those movies he is a different person, he blends in with the character, he is believable.

and if you want to compare it to maggie even, you can check out her two golden globe nominations, secretary and sherrybaby

maybe the role is small, but, for me, it was enough to keep me from that movie. and i don't think i'm the only one. it may be weird but, as long as i would watch a movie for a certain actor/actress that only appears in the said movie for 30-60 seconds (yes, i've done that, i'm crazy 16 ) i will not watch a movie if a certain actor/actress is in it 19

I didn't see much wrong with Holmes performance either. It was nothing to write home about but it defintitely didn't bring the film down or make me enjoy it less. Having said that I never really watched Dawsons Creek so I don't really have her pigeon holed as another character.

As for hard to take seriously, it's hard for me to take a person seriously that looks like a 14 year old playing the role of an assistant District Attorney. I didn't buy her in that role at all the entire movie.

If that's your beef with her then you're saying she was mis-cast, which falls on the directors and producers, not her.

This is true, but she didn't help matters with her acting, which portrayed the character in too youthful of a manner. Actors can change their tone of voice you know. Ledger is a perfect example of that with TDK. Holmes sounded like a naive little girl in BB rather than a mature woman capable for being an assistant D.A.

You make a good point there. Look at the shrink in The Departed. I found it hard to beleive a chick her age would have that gig so young, but she pulled it off extremely well. And she's in her mid-late 20's. Surprised that girl never acted in anything big since, I thought she was amazing.
