Heat 2 is a book...and unfortunately will probably stay that way. Everyone involved is too old to do it. In a scenario where an all new cast is used, they'd more than likely just do a remake of the original.

Barcelona; 1994 film w/pre breakout Mira Sorvino.  I enjoyed this a lot more this time around, probably because I'm more familar with the director tendencies now.  I love the shots of 90s Barcelona too (film is set in the 80s but whatever).

I remember this. When I got into Sorvino in 96 thanks to the Woody Allen movie Mighty Aphrodite, I checked the very primitive at the time IMDB and saw she had a couple movies before this.... Barcelona being one of them.

I should dive back into her stuff. She had so much potential...and years later we found out why it didn't turn out how it should have.... Weinstein.

For a couple years there in the late 90s, I watched all her movies in the theater...even Romy and Michelle.

Glory - Finally got around to watching this. .Civil War movie with Denzel, Broderick, and Morgan Freeman. It's pretty good but damn... Broderick sticks out like a sore thumb. Definitely miscast. Ferris Bueller with a mustache leading the charge in the Civil War? Yikes.

Watching this reminded me of another movie of Morgan Freeman's from this era I still haven't watched and decided to pull the trigger....

Driving Miss Daisy - At 14 years old at the time, my cousin and I watched a shit ton of movies in the theater summer and fall 89 to early 90. I remember laughing about this movie and whoever would go see this crap in the theater. To anyone here too young to remember, this film was massive at the time. You could not get away from hearing about it.

Looking back, I'm surprised my grandma didn't want us to rent this. She must have gotten sick of the hype as well.

Anyways...it's actually really good. I was way too harsh on it but on the other hand...it's not a film teen boys would care about.

My only criticism is how they do a terrible job acknowledging the passage of time...they simply age throughout the film and only things like MLK's speech will show which specific time they are in. The film takes place over the course of 20 years.

While I liked it, it definitely did not deserve Best Picture and Best Actress Oscars. The Academy clearly bought into the hype.

I watched The Blob (1988) while I was making dinner. It wasn't bad....FX hold up, decent cast. I was surprised by the little brother's friend getting killed...I had forgot about that. Pretty risque for its time.

Funny how they set it up for a sequel. This was the 80s...when it's assumed that every horror movie will have sequels. Not sure what happened there. Bad timing I suppose...the horror genre entered the dark ages as we headed into the 90s....didn't pick up steam again until the late 90s.

It's on Tubi. It's the last week of the month so Tubi is doing the countdown for all the films leaving the platform on the 1st. The Blob is one of them.

I need to watch some that are on my list. My Tubi queue is massive.

Funny how Shawnee Smith was being set up as the next "scream queen" with this film...yet has a really slim filmography in the 90s....then has a resurrection with the Saw franchise in the 2000s.

I remember The Blob (88 version) seemed to be on a lot on either TBS, USA or TNT during the 90s.  I always passed on watching it.  Anyway  a couple of years ago I finally watch it.  And you know what ?  It's a fucking fun film.  It's not somethng "deep" but you know what who cares?  I had fun watching it and wondering why the hell didn't I watch this sooner.  I think Kevin Dillion was the main star.  I think Keith David might have been in it, going off memory here.  I remember the ending being kind of bonkers and a lot of chaos and explosions.

I'm not an expert on it but it seemed horror in the early 90s hit a creative dry spell and most of the ideas/movies were of the DTV variety.

Knife + Heart--horror/slasher/giallo homage starring one of Johnny Depp's exes (not Amber Heard!).  In French.  Stars Vannessa Paradis (Depp had 2-3 kids with her) and this is really creative.  Lot of rain soaked scenes.  It's set in the 70s and I think it pulls off that aspect pretty well.  Also deals with obsession and lost love so it's not just a slash and blood soaked affair.  There's a"queer" element to the plot as the main character is a gay porn producer.  But you get used to that and it's not a big deal.  Kinda like Blow Out in that it deals with film making.  It was released in 2018.  So for me it's a relatively "new" film.

Knife + Heart sounds interesting.

I’ve never seen The Blob. I still have an issue with Killer Klowns From Outer Space. I saw it when I was a kid on HBO while I was sick with the flu and my head was messed up with cough medicine. It really freaked me out.

Ford vs. Ferrari

Pretty good. Well directed and well cast.

It made me think, because there is nothing wrong with this movie, yet I have no desire to ever watch it again. You know the story and it was well told, but you don't need to hear the same story again.

I think this is the difference between art and entertainment.

It's not David...it's another black actor as the lead military/scientist guy.

I do this on old movies as well...memory is weird.

When I looked up Shawnee Smith I was shocked to see Who's Harry Crumb on the list. Had you put a gun to my head and told me to name the girl in the film, I would've said Jill Schoelen.

Bright Lights, Big City - This had a lot of potential. For as little acting range he had, Michael J Fox almost hits a home run. The problem isn't him...it's the fact that the story doesn't really go anywhere. By the end, not a single thing has been resolved and it ends with him eating a piece of French bread  in the morning.

Phoebe Cates is completely wasted here. Only a couple scenes even though the story revolves around him wanting her back...and when they finally see each other at the party, it's a really awkward scene where she says one line and his character just laughs uncomfortably at it until getting a nose bleed.

I read about it afterwards and this film went through various writers, directors, and producers until eventually getting the green light. You can tell while watching it...it feels quickly thrown together.

Before he got sick of waiting while it was in developmental hell....Tom Cruise and Schumacher were  onboard with doing this film.

Taken - I finally got around to watching this. Cookie cutter action revenge flick and I have difficulty buying Neeson as a bad ass CIA agent.

A Home of Our Own - Kathy Bates and Edward Furlong movie where they're a dirt poor family trying to build their own house. It was ok but mind-blowing that this ever made it to the theater. This is a TV movie...and should've been on TV.

Cruise would have been great in Bright Lights. I think he would have been really interesting in Wall Street and Platoon. He lobbied really hard for those films.

This isn't the problem.  It's the fact that Neeson is basically wasting his talent doing basically the same damn role for the last 10-15 years.  Yeah, it's an easy paycheck.  But man he's been the butt line of jokes.  Maybe this should have bombed so he would taken more interesting roles.

Cruise would have played the Sheen role ?  Yeah, I could see him doing some good things there.

Target (1985) Gene Hackman film.  I'd seen it years ago on tv somewhere.  It's half a good movie.  It seems to want it both ways in terms of being a gritty spy film/man on the run and a male bonding film w/mismatched partners (in this case father and son).  The parts with  Matt Dillion do not work at all.  He comes off as whiny and idiotic. The Hackman parts where he's running all over Europe and finding information and pining about the days of the past are the best parts.  Either they should have recast the role of Dillion or just changed the plot.  Because this film isn't really gritty enough.

Inferno .  Argento 1980 film.  This one is more interesting than Suspiria which hits you more on a sensory level.  Inferno is one of those spooky gothic infleunced stories about magic, and witches and all that other fun stuff.  The kills are more interesting and the soundtrack is pretty good from Keith Emerson, especially one part near the end. I think Tenebrae or Opera may be better than this one but this is prime Argento.
