Looper - Meh. Plot is pretty ridiculous. Bruce Willis plays himself again.
Triangle - Better twist on the time travel genre.
DKR - Disappointing.
Nixon - Maybe Stone's last truly good movie. Though he only gets 2 scenes Hagman is electrifying.
Total Recall Remake - Joke.

Saw Skyfalk last night, it was pretty awesome. Not sure if it topped Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace. But great movie nevertheless!

Re: Most Recent Movie You've Seen
We just got back from Silver Linings Playbook and I gotta tell ya, I really really enjoyed it.
Glad you liked it. I was interested in checking it out for myself since it looked quite appealing and funny.
Re: Most Recent Movie You've Seen
Marie Antoinette
It was alright. Mostly for its portrayal of court life at the twilight of Versailles and the Bourbon dynasty. Using modern music in a period film always catches some flack, but I think it worked. And I always like to watch Kirsten Dunst.
Problem is it really doesn't go anywhere. At the end you're left asking yourself, "and?".
Lawless
Hillcoat is always worth a watch. With Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain in the cast too it's pretty much a must watch. Good characters, nice photography and decent pacing. Not spectacular, but good enough.
End Of Watch
Another corrupt cop movie from David Ayer. The shaky cam is taken to extreme lengths here, very tiring on the eyes. And Jake Gyllenhaal better hope he never goes bald in real life. Apart from that it's a good ride. Two beat cops bust a couple of drug outfits by accident. When it turns out they belong to the Sinaloa Cartel things get rough.
A fairly realistic portrayal of regular cops, though amped up for dramatic purposes, and some subtext implicating the Feds in the drug war.
Men In Black 3
Meh.
John Carter
I can see why it was a bomb, but actually a decent film. I liked it a lot.
The Dreamers
Didn't really watch it. Eva Green takes her cloths off, a lot. The film itself didn't look all that exciting.
El Narco
Mexican film about the effects of the drug war in Mexico. It's a dark and satirical take on the situation, made as a response to the national centennial.
We follow "Benny". A former emigrant who has returned home after 20 years in America. His brother has been killed and he feels he's forced to join the drug trade to make a living.
Definitely worth a watch if you can find a version with the rights subs.

Re: Most Recent Movie You've Seen
I throughly enjoyed John Carter. It had great presentation; but the acting could of been better. I actually watched the Dreamers in a film class last year. It was interesting and awkward to watch at times.

Re: Most Recent Movie You've Seen
I'm one of the very few who LOVED John Carter. Like Me_Wise said, sure the movie could've had better acting, but it had a lot of heart, and the characters were likeable. It just had the right amount of humour, and sci-fi action. I thought the special effects were great too. To me it was everything the new Star Wars filmed kinda lacked, as far as having a bit of cheese, but still having likeable characters.
My dad and I always joke now with each other "Virginia!"
You'll have to watch it to get that joke...
It's a damn shame too, that because of the box-office flop, we won't see a sequel either...

Funny you say that about Cabin in the Woods, too. I haven't seen it, but have friends who are HUGE horror fans, and didn't think much of it,

Well I give the producers props for trying to condense a piece of literature that's been around for many years and try to make it relevant in an era when great special effects and action are needed to bring audiences together. I think they pulled it off quite nicely. One of the main reasons it flopped was because I guess people thought it was trying to be a clone of Avatar or something (which it wasn't) and they premiered the movie at the wrong time. If it came out during the summer, I think it would of had better success. Over all success and money is one thing. It all boils down to the people who watched it and enjoyed it or didn't like it. Great points Metallex! I recommend this movie. It's just a fun enjoyable sci fi film that tries something new.

Margin Call (2011)
Small, debut movie about a firm at the cusp of the financial crisis. For a measly budget of 4 million it really has an amazing cast. Jeremy Irons, Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Simon Baker, Demi Moore and Zachary Qinto all deliver. Especially Irons and Spacey showcase the great natural actors they are.
I'm guessing it's the script that brought this thing together cause it's brilliant. For a first timer the directing is also top notch. Relaxed and smooth, economic.
First I thought this was just a good, overlooked movie. But it's actually pretty great.
Re: Most Recent Movie You've Seen
finally got round to looper.
great fun. coulda been better. kinda false advertising - the looper (looping?) wasn't really the story.
the story was erratically told tbh. they just shoe-horned either the looper idea onto the plot or vice versa. but the novelty worked, mainly cause it had some cool sci-fi shit & lots of killing.
