Re: Chinese Democracy joke on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother"
Yeah, they also had a Slash mention last year. I'd also lean towards them being "old" GNR fans. Hey, at least CD got a mention or two, right?
Wasnt so much of a slash mention than it was a cameo (of sorts i doubt it was actually him). The group took a picture of slash and teds girlfriend at the time was in the way of his face and the only thing you could see was his hat.
Re: Chinese Democracy joke on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother"
Alot of the GN'R references make sense, because most of the cast of that show would've been teenagers/young adults in GNR's heyday.
Russ the reason I didn't see them as digs at CD is - why mention CD at all? If you're gonna make digs, make them purposely at Axl. Only a diehard new GN'R fan is even gonna know the inner-workings of CD, and yes, that Axl & Dizzy are the lone "heyday" members performing on the album.
To me to give CD a mention, and have both Barney and the guest-character Zoey say they like them seemed like, yes making fun of them, but also giving CD a mention in the world of GN'R and giving it props from characters, because no one else really talks about that album in GNR's history.
You never know, CD's release caused mixed reactions among fans and critics alike. And it seemed to break down into sides too. Axl fans loved the album and called it "Use Your Illusion III", some going so far to call it the rock album of 2008, and worth the wait. Others that were fans of GNR's original sound slammed it, and demanded the original members, or at least old blues-rock sound, to return for future records.
It could've broken down that way on the writing staff. Somed loved it, some liked it, others hated it. I've been among rock fans and we've talked new GN'R and CD. CD's legacy always broke down that way. Some of us loved, some thought it was okay, others were strongly opposed to the album.
About the only thing i've ever been able to get any GN'R fan, diehard or casual, to agree on, is most will agree that the new Guns, in any incaranation, are typically a very good live act, regardless of the lack of old members.

Not that you're grossly over thinking it or anything.
