After they walked off stage a lot of the seats on the upper levels started to empty (maybe a third of them) but the standing crowd seemed to hang in there. From my point of view after the band came back on the seats filled back up and it seemed to me there was more people in the arena than what was at the beginning.

My only reason for this is maybe alot of people came in late after been in pubs, but i def had a much harder time getting through the crowd after they came back on stage than i did before.

Seriously dodgy vibe in that place last night. Frank had to keep drumming between songs just to drown out the booing... no joke

Sorry to sound like a nutswinger...but to me there's a late start and a late start....

like ok...support finishes at 9. Now pretty much any band i've seen you are looking at a 45 minute wait for the next act - that's normal to be running on time - so like that makes it 9.45 - so then GNR comes on at 10.26 - whats really only a wait of 41 minutes after the earliest possible time they could come on. To me that's acceptable...not great, bur not stupid crazy either....

Now if we're talking hours and hours of wait...like the famed 1am starts and so on then I see the anger from the crowd...but 40 mins isn't that big of a deal for a major type show IMO.

haha, u musta been so pissed u were seeing double.

i didn't go back in but there was a fuckload of people left when i left & left before me. thousands. people started pouring out as soon as the bandwalked off. i waited til houselights came on.
there was still plenty there when i was leaving but there was also plenty of people on their way home.

funny i also found it quite easy to get to the front of the stage. i didn't get to the venue til 9:55 (cause i'd known they came on around that time in belfast & i'd planned to head in around sorry/til). but i got a couple of pints & tried to get one of those irish "gnr rocked ireland - i was there" shirts but thankfully they had sold out(!) & pretty much sauntered up to about the 4th or 5th row. if i'd have gotten closer i probably woulda stayed to see the whole thing but because it was so easy to leave (there was nobody behind me except for some lads trying to scheme a riot) i just thought fuck it i could sleep in my own bed tonight rather than deal with that pish..

I think it also depends how the late starts are handled by the venue. I saw VR in 05 who were meant to come on at 9pm and came on at 9.45pm, now the response to that was lots of booing that died away when they came on. In 06 I saw GNR at the same venue again 9pm scheduled start but when we got there there were posters up and people on the doors saying tonights performance is likely to start later than scheduled. GNR hit the stage around 10.15 with nothing more than light hearted banter from the crowd beforehand.

Problem right now is GNR are in the spotlight due to Reading, the media is watching out, waiting to be outraged by GNR's next late start. So therefore the start time is under the microscope even more by those at the gig. I'm not a big fan of the late starts but to be honest a 10.26 start really isn't all that bad and I wonder if the reaction last night wasn't all the worse for the shit storm in the media surrounding GNR over the weekend.
