Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
There’s a reason Axl didn’t make it to the stage on time in Reading and Leeds and it’s got nothing to do with the spirit of rock’n’roll rebellion – or taking a nap or any pre-show deal he now says he made, as reports have suggested. It’s the same reason, in fact, that Chinese Democracy took 12 years to make and reportedly over $13 million. I think you know what I’m talking about.
Actually, I don't really know what he's talking about.
Is it "Axl's an Asshole" or "Axl's Crazy" or "Axl has a disorder" or what. If he has something to say he should come out an say it rather than just hinting at things.
Does seem like he wanted to piss Axl off, i mean refering to the Chinese wait, and then saying to call slash.
Although I do think there must be a deeper force at play, as it makes no sense to me that Axl would be a jerk endlessly just for the sake of it, especially when the negative events mess up his life much more so than the fans. Know what I mean? It's one bad night for a fan, it's his whole lifestyle on the line for Axl.
Which makes me think we should probably show him some love even in the tough times. IF (and it may not be true of course) he has a problem that's behind these events, Then the fact that he goes on stage at all in front of thousands, or gets his album out, even after years, is actually a huge achievment for a person suffering from phobias and so on. And ironicly he'd be bashed for it because he's not even better, like he would be if he were a person without problems.
If you think about it, very little from the whole saga makes sense. The wait for the album, the way band members have gone, the silences, the dramas. All of us 'armchair quaterbacks' can identify how unusual the band is, and how many 'mistakes' they could be said to have made, and most of us arn't even in the industry. The sum of all this 'evidence' to me - goes beyond just "Axl must be a fuckhead" - it just doesn't make sense that way - it has to be that the same brain that gives him amazing artistic and musical talents - also makes him sensitve and he just isn't able to peform for us on tap. I think his skills came at a price, and that price is that he needs to do things his own way in his own time in order to have enough piece of mind to function.
So I guess while I agree that half of what goes on is fucked up, I also think Axl's amazing on a musical level, and to cope with what goes on in his world, and so no matter how much gets fucked, I'll always be supporting the band, and if that means waiting around for a few hours at a show, I'm good for it.
Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
Theyare more accepting of the new band, which is why GNR still sell a shitload of tickets.. they aren't accepting of Axl's behavior however. see DL 2006.
If I'm yelling for Slash, booing during songs, and throwing shit at Bumblefoot, I would not place myself in the category of "accepting". You're right that Axl is the root cause of a lot of these problems, but the forum junkie drooling over Fortus does not represent an entire crowd, and definitely not an entire region.
As far as tickets being sold, they sell because of ONE thing and ONE thing only......
Don't kid yourself. Having said that, I think he's gone to the AFD well one too many times. He was running on fumes with it in 2006/07, and obviously the people going to these shows are starting to want the real thing if they got to hear it. Its why the Slash chants are back like they were in 2002. The excuse on the forums back then was the crowd couldn't stand seeing "the freak" onstage. What's the excuse now?
Yeah, Download was a huge clusterfuck, but that's what happens when a GNR show is promoted using Slash and Duff billboards and you show up with something else.
I really wish this guy would get a wild hair up his ass before its too late and pull an Audioslave situation out of his hat. He really sells himself short dancing around a 23 year old album.
Cant have that though. Makes too much sense. We gotta act like the band moved on instead.
One other thing that makes this tour different and may effect its overall vibe is the fact he no longer has a mythical album to hide behind when the going gets tough. He used to be able to grab his ball and run home saying he had an album to work on. Those Chinese cards are now on the table for all to see and we're still dancing with Mr. Brownstone.
Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
The Slash chants, as far as I know, was yelled once the other night, by people who were already yelling and throwing shit. Haven't heard where its happening all the time. And I haven't seen any videos of them being booed like what was reported. If they did GNR must've won them back during the show. The videos have been pretty cool, imo. And their shows have been selling pretty good, too, so I don't see a problem there.
I have no problem with the Setlist. He has his staples of what he's going to play and pretty much said so in Rio back in 2001. I don't have a problem with it.
His being late sucks. And yeah, he definitely should play some new tunes.

The booing was bad at the start but after they came back on the crowd got really into the music.

Here's a new one fresh off the vault:
I get up around 7 (pm)
get out of bed around 9 (pm)
make you stand around until 11
breakin curfew and gettin fined
You been waiting for Guns N' Roses
with bottle throwers
Cops, Promoters, just leave my ass aloneeeeeeeeee
Cos he used to wait a little but a little would do it
so the little got more and more
he just kept trying to get a little later said a little later than before....
Huge cross over potential
Sorry Axl

^ there has to be something going on behind the scenes I think. Nothing else makes sense.

Very true.
I like your thinking.
