Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
tbh i think a lot of responsibility lies with MCD - security for one was a joke. one security guard came over to an idiot who was throwing bottles behind me & said to him "i saw you, i saw you throw that bottle. next time you do that you're out." why not just throw him out in the first place?
i wasn't searched at all on the way in.
anyway they're taking no responsibility for it, despite their employees telling me the gig was over & to go home:
Statement issued by Promoters MCD & the management of The O2 regarding the Guns N' Roses concert at The 02, Dublin, Wednesday 1st September 2010.
Despite every effort being made by promoters to ensure Guns N' Roses would go on stage on time, they went on at 22.26hrs having been due to be on stage at 21.45hrs, support artist finished at 21:00hrs.
During the second song Axl requested members of crowd who were throwing plastic glass's containing unknown substances to immediately stop or he would have no option but to leave the stage. He confirmed band's wish to perform stating "we want to stay..one more bottle and we go home". Despite his continued appeals, having tried to continue performing for 22 minutes,
people continued throwing unknown substances leaving artist with no choice but to leave the stage.
From the stage MCD Promoter Denis Desmond again appealed to audience to refrain from throwing items and stated that the band would be back on stage shortly.
The artist was prevented from leaving the venue by the Promoter and following backstage discussions Guns N' Roses went back on stage at 23.20 hrs and performed their full set until 00.53 hrs.
While the artist has a long history for being late on stage (Slane 1992 - crowd waiting 2 hours and last weekend's UK Reading festival), NO artist should be subjected to missiles and unknown substances being thrown at them. However, despite this the band went back on stage after people stopped throwing items performing their full set of songs in full.
MCD and The 02 wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to late running of the show.
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
Did you see Axl appear at the side of the stage looking rather dishevelled when CD started? A lot of folk are saying he'd just arrived and Danko Jones were killing time during their set.
Sure the security should have ejected punters throwing things straight away, someone cocked up by saying show was over etc. Thats the fog of war, theres no doubt a moment where noone knows what the hell is going on.
But really c'mon, all this shit is so easily prevented, and he just never ever learns. He, the band, the crew have all fucking day to prepare. There is no excuses for such amaturish calamities night after night.
Start taking some fuckin pride in your work for god sake.

i didn't see him. i was over at bumbles side of the stage. bumble was out on stage with his guitar techs while they were setting up the stage i tried to ask him what was going on but he just smiled & gave me a thumbs up.
whenever axl did come out for CD i have to say he seemed to just appear from nowhere. one second there was nothing then as if by magic he just appeared, i thought his entrance was pretty cool.
but to me it seemed pretty clear what was going on after the house lights went up. and the decent thing to do when you call off the gig is to have the balls to go thru with it so the FANS can get their money back if they're not going to get their moneys worth.
it seemed pretty set in stone the evening was over after the houselights went on but in hindsight i should've waited for an announcement from the stage rather than some lackey. but how long should i have to wait as well, y'know? i was back in belfast just as they were finishing the set so..
there is no excuse. it was an overreaction from axl to a handful of idiots.& they wouldn't have been such idiots if he'd not been so arrogant & lacklustre in his performance & time keeping.
i did notice bumbles reaction after the walkoff but i couldn't really tell anything from it. he just threw his hands up in the air dispairingly. in fairness to bumble a lot of shit was getting thrown at him especially from that side of the stage (and a good few we want slash chants) so he'd have more reason than enough to be pissed with the crowd..
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
I was up close to the stage I saw both bottles being thrown. Security was an absolute joke people weren't even searched. There were fights in the crowd and security didnt even intervene.
I've been to a good few concerts in the O2 and they NEVER sell bottles. If you buy a bottled drink it gets poured into a plastic cup.
I don't know what the fuck they were thinking.
Guns came out on flying form. After they returned to the stage axl avoided getting close to the crowd and just stood in place most of the night. Not only did he seem angry, he seemed actually sad.
the bottles should never have been allowed and people throwing things should have been shot.
All that BS aside though, the show was great the band were on fire, and standing in place all night, meant that axl could deliver a near perfect vocal performance !! No joke, he sounded better than on record in a live setting
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)

the weirdest thing is after it on my walk back to the hotel i kinda started feeling sorry for axl.
if what that woman on the radio said was true about him freaking out in the car park, and i think it probably is, you gotta wonder about how healthy his mind is. in belfast the night before i didn't think he could deliver such a soulful performance any more & was genuinely thrilled to see him in such brilliant & honest form.
then last night it was the flipside, the pissed-off brat who can't grow up.
i thought from the moment he came out he looked like really uncomfortable, awkward & didn't want to be there. the bottle throwing gave him an excuse.
we all get angry & pissed off but when he does it his actions have consequences beyond what he can control.
it is a bit of a shitstorm in his head i'm sure.
but he doesn't seem capable of seeing things from other people's point of view, he doesn't seem to be capable of seeing that maybe he is wrong from time to time.
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
I remember at Glasgow Axl was singing at the front of the stage and a cup of something came flying out the crowd and crashed at his feet. He didnt stop singing, he just carried on and mopped it up with a towel, but I remember how his face was etched with sadness and disapointment.
Its horrible the band are having to face such hostility, theres no condoning any of the reckless thuggery from morons in the crowd, throwing anything is slap bang out of order. As for cup or bottles of piss, thats simply disgusting, noone on earth would be prepared to stand there and accept it.
Again... its not that difficult to take action to try prevent it completely or try to stop the tension escalating if there is a legitimate delay in setting up.

she said after the walkout at the 4tus solo she was walking by one of the gates where you could see into where the tour bus was parked.
she saw axl there & he was cursing the crowd for throwing things & leaving. she said he was then squatting down with his head in his hands looking like he was really freaking out trying to hold it together.
There were a lot of scummy fuckers who were only there to start trouble last night.
i'll agree with that.
