For my money slash has always been one of the most electrifiying live peformers to watch, and always brings a level of ability and "x factor" on the guitar that far surpasses a normal player.
Yes, he's older now, he has a pacemaker for fuck's sake, so he can't run around like a madman like he could at 22. Yes, he's one of those peformers that has good and bad days, he is a human being afterall, and, let's be honest, the guy had been a hardcore junky for much of his life, yet played thousands of shows, so of course there's going to be peformances on tape where he was under par, or where he excelled, it's the nature of things.
I'll even go as far as to grant that the tone of his amps and stuff was cooler back in the day, like in tokyo he's got a much warmer sound happening. But I think you've dramaticly over stated things. I don't see an obvious decline.....I think many of his newer songs have guitar parts that are just as complex if not more so than the older work. And while he may have fucked up on occasion, I think you're forgetting you are talking about a guy who has a reputation as a rock god, as one of the greatest guitarists ever, for a very good reason....he just is.

Avoiding the question, and simply responding with a "well what about Axl?"
No one was talking about Axl. We're talking about Slash, and only Slash. There is no Axl vs. Slash argument in what i'm saying. At least not at this time.

well obviously its personal preference, but i like 5oclock, contraband and libertad and his new disk...maybe not every song on all those disks but a good 6 or 7 on each of them...hell maybe i'm just old and outdated myself

in miy mind he has put out some awesome stuff post-gnr...in yours he hasnt, what makes your opinion more valid than mine> some people will like his stuff some peopel wont...thats show biz
personally i have gnr's chinese democracy and slash's rnfnr and i dig the hell out of them both, for those that dont like em...meh your loss

Well I think his guitar playing on TSI sounds killer, but that was still while he was with GN'R, so I guess that doesn't count...?
So in VR I'd say the big singles they released (Slither, Fall To Pieces, and Set Me Free) are all great examples, along with You Got No Right (the solo is awesome).
And on this new solo album, Watch This and Nothing To Say showcase some killer guitar riffing and soloing as well.
But there's also session spots he's done - Street Child with Elan, Always On the Run with Lenny Kravitz, Give In To Me with Michael Jackson, although might be around the same time you're talking about.
