Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
I don't know if they had the discussion with GNR management, no. I assume they'd be smart enough to do so. But even IF they did, there's still no reason to go blab to the press that "if they don't go on when they're supposed to, we'll pull the plug." There's really no excuse for that in my mind. I'm sorry. Call me what you will.
For comparisons sake. Tony Dungy recently blasted Rex Ryan for his use of foul language to his team on the "Hard Knocks" show on HBO. Rex took offense to those comments and wouldn't you know the very next episode the expletives were flying more than normal. Listen, you push someone who might not be the most stable of human beings, you know there's a good chance it might not end up in your favor.
So yes, I do put some blame on the promoter.
And thanks for pointing out my "stupid fucking naive comment". You got any more for me? I'll take it as long as you can dish it my friend.
It's unbelievable that you don't understand why the promter would state the consequences to the press and it's unbelievable that you even suggested the promoters never went over any of this with Gn'R managemnt directly. So for that yes it's a stupid naive comment. You don't get booked to headline a major festival without having contact with the promoter. do you just think they ahd a quick written aggrement via e-mail.
Promoter: Hey Gn'R would you like to headline Reading Festival?
Gn'R: Yeah sure, what time?
Promoter: Curfew is at 11:30 so 10:00 - 11:30
Gn'R: Cool we'll be there but we go on late so maybe 10:30-12:00.
Promoter: Ummmm.... ok.....
Promoter proceeds to call the media and fill them in on the details and consequences of breaking curfew.
Yeah faldor your'e right. None of that was likely mentioned to Gn'R directly
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
I wonder if everyone in GN'R tweeting about this over and over and over realize that no one outside the forums gives a wild rats ass about this at all?
If they bothered reading the #Readingfestival tweets instead of logging into the forums they know that people in attendance don't give a shit about them. When they(or any artist/band I like) play at these big festivals now, I'm not running to the forums.....I'm going to Twitter. You get the uncensored opinions of normal people in attendance without forum junkie perspectives.
The way the forums reacted to this is a 180 compared to the audience in attendance. 100 people chanting with Axl is not winning over the crowd. Everybody else was already heading towards the exit or already home.
Some people were already running to the exit when Jungle was being performed. For the forum peeps to say this show was "more rock n roll than the Ritz" don't even know what rock n roll is or that GNR just grabbed a ton of new fans is ridiculous.
No, they still have the same amount of hardcore forum junkie fans but lost a ton of casual fans.

Bono, give it rest. Seriously. I said, they probably did go over it with GNR management. That still doesn't mean they should've gone to the press with the details. THAT'S what I disagree with. Get it? Good!

"Axl and The Sunshine Band" lol classic. Gonna save that one
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
I might be brainwashed, but I'm really interested in what happens tonight. Axl treats fans like shit. We've known that for over 20 years. Along with the late starts and lame excuses. Been that way since the start. Nothing new.
I do think its kind of hypocrytical of people acting like this is so awful when its been going on forever, and its actually written in all their bios (pre nuGNR) that this shit is what made them a "bad ass" rock n roll band.
I have no doubt in my mind that the same people blasting him right now woud be licking Axl's ballsack if the 1988 line up was on tour right now, doing the same shit -- Meaning: the majority (not everyone) of the outrage on these boards has more to do with the who is and who isn't in the lineup than it does with Axl's childish behavior, imo.
I can understand being fed up with the non production and arrogant fan interaction with the GNR camp, though. I just don't think that's the whole reason for the outrage. And the average Joe making fun of them and hating them? Meh, lived through the 90's. Nothing new there, either.
The only thing that would probably irreversibly make me hate this band is hanging around HTGTH and the Axlites for any long length of time.

I agree with you that people are more upset with who is/isn't in the band. But I don't necessarily think they wouldn't be upset even if Slash and company were a part of this. Axl is THE reason GNR goes on late and it's always been that way. Previous lineups have spoken about their dislike for the mistreatment of fans and the "fans" agree. So while people would be happier with a different lineup, I don't think they'd warm up to this charade.
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
Absolutely, russ. It is their fault and there's no excuse. And its the reason why I'm not going to see them live. But I still like the band, still interetsed in new music.
But to be honest, I've had trepidations about them since I was a kid and the people who were going to take me to see the GNR/Metallica tour didn't think it would be a good idea to take me in case of a riot or them pulling a no show, or even *gasps* a late start!
I understand the outrage. It's not cool AT ALL going on late. I can enjoy the spectacle because, one, I wasn't there, and two... I wasn't there
I do think what's happening now is very interesting. Not saying he's rebel or any of that. I think its the most interesting thing going on with a band at this very moment, because... I don't know whats going to happen next.
And, for the record, if the world hates them, and I'm the only fan left... I'm okay with that. Doesn't mean I agree with how they conduct themselves but my mindset regarding this band isn't as severe or great, positively or negatively, as others.

Oh yeah, I meant to put that in there. They would actually have our mindset, knowing its bullshit, but thinking its par for the course.
I would picture their arguments being very similar to "Axl's a prick. But you knew what you were getting when you bought the tickets."
And I'm sure we'd have a few current disgruntled fans shouting, "It's rock n roll! Get on board or fuck off!"
