No, all their cap room disappeared when Vanek got that huge deal, and since then Roy and Hecht have both signed bigger and longer deals too. This offseason Campbell will be gone too.

I don't have the 07-08 numbers exactly, but I have the 06-07 salaries.

Briere was 5 mil and Drury was 3 mil, so the Sabres opened up 8 mil of cap room letting them go. Plus Biron's 2.6 and whatever Zubrus made.

But let's just say they had 10 mil in cap room. Vanek got a 6.8 mil increase, Roy got a 2.5-3 mil increase, and Hecht got an extra mil. Well, there goes all the cap room. Gone.

Why the fuck is Chris Simon not suspended from the NHL for life?! The guy is a dirty player who would rather end careers than win games. He's steeped WAY out of line how many times now? He should've been permanently removed last year, but they let him come back and in like 20 games, he pulls another shit act that deserves a lifetime ban.

I have my doubts that he'll be playing once the suspension is over.  If the Isles release him, which they might do after giving him a leave of absence, he'll probably be blackballed throughout the league, much like Marty McSorley.

Well Nolan was screwed in Buffalo. I don't pretend it was racial, but he got the short end of the straw, that's for sure. What Simon's done time after time is not comparable.

Nolan's release in Buffalo is a peculiar event. I don't buy the 'Hasek wanted him gone and pretended to be hurt' because Buffalo sports writers started that and Buffalo sports writers are the most awful bitter bunch of fuckheads I've ever read.

2 great games for the Sabres vs. those damn Flyer bums (And Biron and Briere). 6 straight wins! Awesome! These past two without Connolly in the line up as well. I feel bad for Biron, he was amazing Friday and Saturday but only got 1 point out of the possible 4. Played physical, worked hard most of the time, exciting finishes... hockey can be the greatest sport in the world at times.

EDIT: Did you guys see Coach's Corner tonight? Cherry really got pissed, I haven't seen him like that all year, albeit I missed some of them. I don't agree at all about his POV on the Simon incident. Jarkko didn't deserve that. Not at all.

What do you guys think of the Winter Classic tomorrow? I think it's a very important game for the health of hockey in the US. Football sportscasters have even been talking about it, the first time I've ever heard them mention anything NHL. I'm pretty excited to be going, and would rather see an exciting game than a win for Buffalo.

Go NHL in the USA! Survive!

That game looked awesome. I saw it on my guide & flipped over but it was a commercial break. I flipped back to a bowl game & forgot to tune back. That was exactly what the NHL needed, and the snow seemed to make it legendary. Ending with a shootout with Crosby, I hate to say it but the NHL couldn't write a better script for that day.

Al Morganti of ESPN/VS is on a radio station here & said he thinks the NHL should do this every year. Went so far as to say Buffalo should always host it, similar to Detroit/Dallas always hosting a Thanksgiving Day game. I think he's right, as the surefire cold & snow makes it exciting. Also, with Bowl games spread out over several days now, there's an opportunity to steal viewers on New Years Day. Maybe host a 2nd game in Minnesota or Ottowa outside also, then the All Star game DEFINITELY NEEDS to be outside. This might really take off, finally the NHL has something to promote!!
