Re: GNR tour dates in Canada?
Commercial is awesome for two reasons- actually promotes new band and uses mostly new band songs.
Sucks because the songs are too loud and you can't hear the guy talk
To be fair that's a less a content thing and more a whoever made that ad fucked up slightly.
Still best promo NewGuns have ever had.

This ad used to promote the CD release in the UK last year was also pretty good. I'd say this new one along with that are the two bits of new GNR promo we've seen.

Re: GNR tour dates in Canada?
Bono, I'm gonna say it again... there's no bloody way I'm going to Red Deer in -40 weather to get stuck in a January snowstorm when I can go to a concert in my backyard.
Just saying... they need to play concerts where the population is. Maybe it would be different in the summer when people can count on a nice drive up the QEII. But in January? That's a suicide mission!
The way I see it, there's approx. 1 million people in Calgary and another 1 million in Edmonton. There's like 89,000 in Red Deer. Are you telling me that 10% of the population of Red Deer would go to a Guns N' Roses concert in the bone chilling dead of January? Well no, people can drive from Edmonton or Calgary... but how can anyone guarantee that people would be willing to risk the trip in January?
Dude sold it out in winter for Motley Crue, Tragically Hip was in Red Deer in January and the place sold out instantly. Where you from originally? I drive back and forth between Calgary and Red Deer all winter long dude. It's not the suicide mission you're making it out to be and the -40 degrees stuff normally happens in February Trust me on this one man. Red Deer has a surrounding area of like 150 000 people. The drive from either Edmonton or Calgary isn't that bad. Red Deer would make perfect sense. Plus if it were such a risk nobody from Red Deer would ever venture into Calgary or Edmonton in the winter for concerts let alone on a daily basis.

James Lofton wrote:Play Riad instead of that Liquor and Whores crap....
not my favorite song but I think it would make a good opener or first encore song, don't you?
I think CD would be a great opener but its unlikely. Jungle has been the standard opener since the post 93 era. I doubt it changes.
Riad definitely needs to be in the set though, and if he struggles with it like he did in 02, just let the band rock out to it while he takes a hit of oxygen backstage. Play the instrumental instead of one of those lame solos.
oh yeah i heard a commercial on the radio today
they played song clips from
Chinese Democracy
Welcome to the jungle
Paradise City
Riad and the bedoiuns
Betteri think that was them in the order they were played...i will confirm once i hear it again
That certainly insinuates that it will be performed, and that also places it in contention for 3rd single. Before someone says choosing Riad as a single is dumb because it wont take over the world, it doesn't need to take over the world. At this point, a rocker on this album making it into the top 20 rock charts is just fine and dandy.
Oh I'm so excited! That commercial is awesome. I'm planning on going to the show in Toronto. It's a 7 hour drive, but honestly it's worth every single second. Does anyone know how I can get the password for the presale tomorrow morning?
Passwords for presales are pretty easy. Its always something related to the artist/band. Password for MIA shows was 'Jimmy'. It was the single at the time.
So just try things like Axl, Guns, Roses, Chinese Democracy, etc. and you'll eventually strike gold.
As far as promos go, my all time favorite is the Boston radio ad. First time that fans got to hear snippets of studio tracks.

Arenas vs Theatres...
Well.
A theatre = 1 or 2 thousand, maybe capacity. That's a big ass theatre. 1 person more than 2,000 and they can't get in.
An arena = 5-10 thousand in ticket sales, 20,000 capacity.... Who cares if it's not full, besides fans pissing about the old days? Anyone who can come can buy a ticket and come.
If you then paper the show - half-off, free, buy 4 get 8 free, whatever - the venue still pulls in people it can sell beer to, more merchandise still get's sold, and there's a few more cars they can sell a parking pass to. That's gravy. A theatre is dealing with the SAME fixed costs, with much LESS opportunity for revenue for all involved.
What matters is how many tickets you needed to sell to make it worthwhile.
90 percent of a 2,000 theatre < 50 percent of a 15,000 arena.
Why is Gn'R selling out 50% of a 15 000 seat venue but only able to sell out 90% of a 2000 seat venue? Ask any sports franchise in the world if they care if they play to a half empty arena? The atmosphere isn't nearly as good and the same thing goes for concerts.
