Re: Interesting part of Axl's February Del James interview
yeah bith Axl and Slash ran Izzy down if i remember correctly..but ya know it was a strongest survives mentality at the time and izzy displayed weakness
and in any case i think that both guys have made amends with Izzy since
yeah I mentioned Slash had changed his view with the benefit of age and wisdom in my earlier post
My point was that seldom do people acknowledge the massive creative shift that was essentially Izzy and Slash not playing together, that occured on UYI
More often than not the overproduction, epics and piano are mentioned, but this is somehow overlooked
Re: Interesting part of Axl's February Del James interview
As far as this Finck side discussion goes, I think anyone who has followed this saga should be able to see both sides of the coin. He has a unique style, which is certainly an acquired taste. Finck is the casu marzu of guitarists.
He also has a microscopic discography, which does not impress many people. He has also made a career of playing other peoples music, and he takes liberties with that.
Someone not liking Finck shouldn't be regarded as breaking news. Its the story of his career.
izzy displayed weakness
He actually displayed that he was wise well beyond his years as he got out while the gettin' was good. Band has never been the same since he left, and never will be again either, even if he decided to come back.
Re: Interesting part of Axl's February Del James interview
^I agree, but I was talking more the fact that the drugs took over his abilitiy to perform competetantly and in Slash and Axl's Eyes that was unacceptable ... similar with steven.
however Izzy left before they could fire him but it didnt change that they pointed out his shortfalls to cover their own
Re: Interesting part of Axl's February Del James interview
Izzy was clean and sober when he left....that is one of the main reasons he left was because the others were out of control with booze, drugs, and the worst drug of all-EGO. I think Izzy showed nothing but strength and foresight as his reputation has survived completely intact.
Re: Interesting part of Axl's February Del James interview
Izzy has been clean since 1989.

Re: Interesting part of Axl's February Del James interview
I can see why at the time, Slash who was still using, may have been unsympathetic to the needs of a recovering adict to stay away from other users if that's what you mean, especially if it ment busting up the band to do it.
While for his own health izzy did the right thing and the strong thing, I can see why to people who didn't understand his condition it would seem weak, like they'd think he could have worked out a way to deal with that pressure and kept GNR intact.
I think it should also be considered that anything Axl and Slash said at the time may have been said out of being hurt too. the guy is a childhood friend of Axls, and a guitasrist who'se chemestery with slash has made them all world famous, and a fellow best mate and 'gang member' for all purposes....then he walks out.....there would be an element of resentment from the rest of the band. I think with hindsight and mature eyes they might see it differently - but you can understand them running him down a bit at the time, and talking up gilby.
