Re: GnREvolution Arcade Madness - Discussion and Results Thread

I don't think SMB3 is remembered on its own, it's just considered the best (by many) of a huge franchise. GTA will be well known for a very long time, and when it comes up, Vice City is likely to be remembered as the best.

Super Mario Bros 3 was one of the best selling games of all time. It is beaten by very few and most of those are games that are packaged with consoles or extra peripherals. GTA is not one of those games and there's a reason.

Saying Vice City will be forgotten in 10 years is premature. Nobody knows what impact it will have, it's an amazing game to play today and it's already 7 years old.

There's just plain no way that Vice City will be remembered as long as SMB3

Oh, and the first Super Mario should have been in this thing. It almost had the same worldwide impact that Pac Man did.

Vice City forgotten in 10 years?? As long as there are people on the globe who experienced the 80s, no way in hell do people forget it. The only thing missing from that snapshot of the 80s was a free rubix cube, parachute pants, and a chocolate covered Hostess vanilla pudding pie.

Mario Bros 3 held the record at one point for best selling game of all time. That's a pretty big worldwide impact. Hell people went to the Wizard just to catch five minutes of SMB3!

Mario 1 laid the groundwork, and was a superior game imo.

It should be getting the respect here. And anyone who thinks in ten years, that GTA will be an afterthought are in serious denial.

GTA is just as much a legend as Mario, Sonic & Zelda.

Mario 1 did indeed lay the groundwork but in no way shape or form is it better than Mario 3, Mario 3 was everything they had learned previously and then perfected. To say 1 was bettr than 3 is crazy. I agree GTA is a legend but again it will never be remembered as much as Mario or Zelda and that is a fact.

GTA is a legend of a series but it's not reached the heights of Mario, Sonic and Zelda, and unfortuantly due to it's content never will. It's at a Halo level of legend status along with Solid Snake and Samus Aran.

Just to be clear hears class of VG "legend"

Top Tier- Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Pacman, Space Invaders and Pong
Second Tier- Halo, GTAIII Onwards, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid and currently at least although it's longetivity is questionable... Wii Sports
Third Tier- The EA Sports Franchise

Also whilst the previous games were good until III GTA was a blip on the gaming radar.
