Re: Axl's fired and re hired Azoff 3 times in last 5 weeks!
One thing I don't think enough people consider is that Axl can only be who he is.
In my opinion there is a lot of him and his personality captured in his music, and it comes from very real place.
What these articles always seem to boil down to is "Axl's a cunt and he should be different or do different things" but he'd have to alter his personality to do that, and that would have dire consequences on the artistic results.
At the end of the day, in my opinion, the bullshit that fucks up the business side of things and angers fans and others, is a very real part of the same psyche that is able to create the musical masterpieces he makes. He only has one mind, and it's a package deal. I think people should keep that in mind is all and maybe show a bit more understanding.
That would be fine and dandy if he'd actually put out anything worthy of the "masterpiece" label in the last 18 years, but he hasn't.

This could be true, but it may not be true either. I've seen enough reports in various media outlets that turn out to be erroneous, or at least partly erroneous to questions these type of reports.
I don't really get the mentality on some of these boards that almost look for something to have to point to and say "See I knew Axl was a crazy, out of control asshole." I really don't understand it. That, not the inactivity of GNR, makes coming to GNR boards almost unbearable for me anymore.

Well that's one of those each to their own opinions. Madagascar was so inspirational for me, and This I love I consider to be one of the most beautiful and emotional songs ever written - so for me I still think Axl has the goods. But if others don't like the new material that's just as valid.

I like the new material a lot, I just don't consider it a masterpiece. Better than 99% of the stuff out there today? You bet, but then again 99% of the stuff out there today is simply atrocious.
Re: Axl's fired and re hired Azoff 3 times in last 5 weeks!
Of course another spin on this article is it was an intentional leak from Azoff's camp. He then gets off scott free for any responsibility for fact that CD's release ended up looking like a dogs breakfast.
By getting in first and also throwing in the comment about Axl's mental illness people automatically assume "poor Azoff how did he possibly manage to work with that crazy guy, he must have had the patience of a saint..." etc etc
He can then walk away from the whole clusterfuck with his professional reputation intact and a cool $2M. Axl is left sitting at home with only $1M from the saga and a career sitting on a knifes edge.
My take on it is there is probably blame on both sides for the shithouse way CD came out and how it was handled. It's certainly not all Azoff's fault by any stretch of the imagination, but at the same time I doubt all the blame is Axl's either. I'm sure there are simply too many people with their own agendas around Axl that he doesn't know which way to move or who to trust, consequently he becomes almost paralysed unable to move, trying second and third guess every decision before he makes it. He then ends up making no decision.
This is the most likely scenario. Azoff will never fully disconnect from Axl. I've said from day one, Azoff got involved so he could have the reunion card in his back pocket for a rainy day. That's all. He helped salvage CD from a financial disaster, but he's involved for the long-term pay day. No manager, like Irving Azoff, would deal with a dead end band with a crazy frontman, just 'cause. Azoff doesn't need his business. But Azoff is a power broker in the music industry, and the man who coordinates a GN'R reunion, some day, will make a shit load of money and continue to be the J.R. Ewing of the music business.
Blame on both sides? Axl & Universal? Yes. Axl & Azoff? Not only no, but HELL no. If we're comparing Axl vs. Azoff, Azoff is the angel sent to Axl's doorstep to save his career. Azoff might be in it for the money, but Azoff saved Axl's bacon over at Universal. Azoff has done everything right, and it amazes me that the fans continue, with manager #4,263 and the countless producers Axl's fired, and the band members he's run off, that they still say "well it's on both sides". Bullshit. That's the fence riding shit that goes on with fans.
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN AXL'S FAULT. Get it through your skulls people. The man is a fucking lunatic. It just blows me away that people still sit back and say it was Alan Niven's fault, Slash's, Duff's, Izzy's, Steven's, Matt's, Gilby's, Roy Thomas Baker's, Doug Goldstein's, Bob Ezrin's, Youth's, Merck's, Robin's, Bucket's, Erin's, Steph's, Mick Wall's, the media, his boss at Tower Records, his mother, his father, MTV, Universal, Geffen, the fans, the promoters, Clear Channel, Metallica, the LA County Circuit Court of Appeals...
I mean come on folks.
The saddest part is I used to love the man. Now... and it's not this article. It's the whole thing. I just feel sad for him. I feel sad for the fans. I feel sad that Slash, Izzy, Gilby, Duff, Steven, Matt, & Dizzy, all with great talent, found success with an extremely talented nutjob at lead singer. I feel sad for all the new guys, who were dragged through this never ending tornado, who thought they could make music with the man. It's a real shame.
I look back on history, and I see Kurt Cobain. Burnt out. Layne Staley. Faded away. But Axl Rose... he's the saddest of all, he lived through all of his misery.
Re: Axl's fired and re hired Azoff 3 times in last 5 weeks!
I think Axl is just a crazy asshole,he's no genius that's for sure,if he was then he would have done some promo for the album and be on tour.
Re: Axl's fired and re hired Azoff 3 times in last 5 weeks!
He's a musical genius. Business wise... Axl Rose is the musical equivalent of the Montreal fuckin' Expos.
I agree. But while at first I kinda believed that story. I don't anymore. I mean come on! Reunion card or not Azoff would not waste his time being fired and rehired 3 times in 5 weeks. He would've probably told Axl to fuck off (which I'm surprised he hasn't done anyways). I don't believe this story. I'm no manager by any means and even I wouldn't take that shit no matter how good the money.
Re: Axl's fired and re hired Azoff 3 times in last 5 weeks!
I just have no desire to put any energy into these types of speculation/scenerios anymore. At least not like Axlin does
Everytime something like this comes out it's either bullshit or highly exaggerated. But I have to say that I have no doubt this could be totally true.
Re: Axl's fired and re hired Azoff 3 times in last 5 weeks!
The only people that call bullshit, are the same people that validity is placed in by certain people, that have lied COUNTLESS times.
What purpose does the Daily News have to lie? Axl Rose is OLD FUCKIN' NEWS BABY. Old time. He's yesterday, last decade, old hat, a has been, nobody cares. Maybe in Europe, but not in the states. Just by them mentioning his name, goes to show one of two things 1) They're down on news, and reachin' for something to talk about, or 2) Someone who writes/reports there is a fan. Other than that, the man is about as socially relevant right now as the "Where's The Beef?" lady.

Yeah he would. You're underestimating the flat out, pure, by the book, cocksuckers that are in the entertainment field. Azoff has dealt with assholes before (see J-Lo).
Azoff doesn't need Axl one way or the other. Axl calls Azoff "You're Fired", Azoff hangs up, and simply takes another sip from his apple martini, and counts his money. Axl calls back "You're Rehired", and Azoff simply says "okay", and takes another puff off his cubano.
GN'R is going nowhere, and Azoff simply wants the brand name in his stable. He'll play the waiting game, which right now he is in a PERFECT situation for, and wait for Axl to break. If Axl never does, Azoff will simply get the weekly "you're fired/rehired" call, left with his secretary, and go about his business, until Axl's willing to work with Slash again.
Azoff's life is not drained with dealing with Axl. He's got other things to do, and I guarantee you, let's Axl life in his own mind like it's still 1991.
