i been listening to some older gnr lately and i wondered if these peices could be about the fans...if not then the seem to have a bit of relevancy in that area right not IMO

maybe not so much about the fans, but an introspect look back at himself through the fans?.... or something those to parts of their respective songs just seemed to be relevant to Axl today from my perspective...i wonder if he ever reflects on past work or lyrics...ponders where he was at that point in time...i know if i go back and look at stuff i did art wise i often reminesce about that time period

Not Breakdown, for me thats general feelings about the difficulties of life and struggling to relate to others around you. Some of his best lyrics ever are in that song. That song makes me identify with Axl Rose more than any other he has written.

and you get some people on these forums claiming others arent fans and what not...we (in general) spend way to much time trying to understand what is happening but it seems to not acound for very much at times
then there is this line
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much to high
which has some current relevance in particular

I always thought a lot of the lyrics to Breakdown could be about the breakdown of the relationships between Axl and the other guys in the band and his struggle to make sense of his own feelings, needs and emotions.
"I've come to know the cold
I think of it as home
When there ain't enough of me to go around
I'd rather be left alone...."
I think that lyric is fundamental in understanding Axl, when he does not feel he wants to interact with others its best just to leave him alone, some people desire their own personal space much more than others. Some people are at their happiest that way and to break out of that comfort zone can be a real unwelcome struggle.
Others people completely need to be around others and cant cope with their own company, I believe Axl and Slash are polar opposites and its no suprise their relationship has broken down completely. They would most likely have drove each other mad.

Lyrically, I always found Breakdown to be Axl's best.
To me it's an admission of guilt, an admission of being fucked up and accepting it and attempting to understand it.
The whole "Warming hands to a different fire and getting burned" by that fire, is an interesting take on coping behaviors and maladaptation.
As a whole, the Illusions seemed to be a requiem and salute to losing their hunger and anger.
This song along with the line in "Coma" of "It's easy to be hungry when you ain't got shit to lose"...
Behind anger is generally sadness, and the anger at this time may have been
finally allowing the sadness to come through.
Anyway, enough blah, blah, blah...point is "Breakdown" is lyrically amazing.

Yeah I always liked Breakdown. Neemo I suppose it could be about the fans & GnR's relationship as a band, but I'm not so sure. Doubt it, I think it's more a general song about life's challenges, like Olorin said. I don't think either Crazy or One in a Million are. Crazy yeah he admits he's crazy but not really any reading between the lines going on with it.
